Wildfire risk doesn’t end when the season does. Any time there is a fire burning on the landscape, there is a risk that it can spread.
Safe burning practices are always in season.
Fire permits are required in the Forest Protection Area until October 31.

Soil supports plant growth. One way is providing a place for roots to anchor. Another way #soil supports #plant life is by being a resource for plant #nutrients. Read this #GroundedInSoils blog to learn more! wp.me/pclOv9-zo

ALT This diagram shows part of a nutrient cycle. From the right: Organic residues, soil organic matter and dead microbial life undergo decomposition through biological and chemical processes. Nutrients like ammonium (NH4+) or nitrates (NO3– ) are available for uptake by plants and microorganisms. The NH4+ and NO3– used by microorganisms for protein synthesis and other metabolic functions will be released by microbial cells at the end of their lifespan. Plants will take up the nutrients through their root hairs. © Joann Whalen is licensed under a CC BY (Attribution) license.

Fighting wildfires takes teamwork. Whether in the air or on the ground, crews work together to identify hazards, stay aware of changing conditions and make decisions that keep everyone safe. We can't do it alone. Success is a team effort.

🌧️ Canada’s precipitation patterns are changing.
From 1949 to 2023, annual precipitation increased by about 1.3% per decade. More precipitation can benefit water supplies and some ecosystems, but can also increase flood risks in other areas.
“So the reallocation mechanism of especially water set aside for other purpose uses is very effectively being used. Saying first of all that water in this region is certainly not taken for granted.”

🏞️ Wetlands are among nature’s most effective defences against disasters.
💧This year’s theme for #DRRDay, “Resilience Starts at Home,” reminds us that disaster risk reduction begins long before a disaster strikes.
