Waving the Tricolour at Jantar Mantar in a peaceful protest is not a crime. Jailing youth for it is an act of cowardice. Students. Youth. Journalists. The INDIA bloc. Different banners, one cause. Look at the sheer brutality inflicted by the Delhi Police on students who are simply demanding their constitutional rights! Why is such excessive force being weaponised against teenagers and youth? The BJP and RSS should be deeply ashamed of using brute force to crush peaceful dissent. India was, is, and will always remain a democratic nation—not a police state!

100 Harvard University alumni issue a statement condemning "police brutality, unlawful detention, and violations of constitutional rights of all peaceful protestors" in Delhi on October 10. They particularly express solidarity with Sr Adv Shadan Farasat (2009 Harvard Law School alumni) who was manhandled by the Delhi police, and CJP Policy Head Mehr Pasricha (Harvard Kennedy School, 2025) who was detained. "We call upon the government and all law enforcement authorities to immediately cease and desist from all violations of constitutional rights, respect rights to peaceful protest and access to legal assistance, and ensure that those responsible for abuses are held accountable in accordance with the rule of law," they demand.

A notice issued by Anurag Kumar, Delhi Police Commissioner, reads: "Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, had constituted a Committee to examine alternative proper venues for citizen's right for organizing protest/demonstrations in place of the existing "designated site". Based on the Committee's recommendations, Jantar Mantar as a protest venue has been de-notified. Three new venues viz Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground, East Delhi have been designated as new venues for organizing protest/demonstrations. Detailed and revised SOP for organizing protest/demonstrations at these three venues will be issued separately. This is in partial modification of earlier Standing Order No. L&O/48/22 dated 28.04.2022."
