Senior Lecturer in Mental Health, views are my own. Detest Tories, Reform and impoliteness. Sanity is merely the insanity of the majority.

People talk of the economy and business as if they are independent entities to be appeased. They are not. They are creations of people, run by people, manipulated by people, controlled by people. It's the greed of the people in control that needs addressing.

The finance industry is a criminal cartel that should be legislated out of existence with key players imprisoned.
Everyone: We should tax the banks. Banks: This would be a disaster! Also banks: We are all making so much money it wouldn't even materially affect us.

Huge result from our members at the University of Lincoln. 85% have voted YES to strike action in the fight to save jobs, on a 60% turnout, with 88% also backing action short of a strike. After four consecutive years of job losses, our members have sent a clear message: enough is enough. Massive solidarity to everyone at Lincoln UCU. ucu.org.uk/article/14674/Uni…

Her own mother was a leading scholar of the history of Roman law. Clearly a hugely vocational pursuit. Still, her hypocrisy will derive from her own career in finance and management consultancy. 🙄

Business wants closer relations with EU. Leaving ECHR would make that more difficult/impossible. Hard to see how a party that wants to leave ECHR and unravel the EU reset can be a party of business. Equally, ditching those policies would surely help put Tories back in contention?

Nottingham was 6th for modern languages in the 2021 REF and is the only university in East Midlands providing language courses. The closure of an objectively brilliant department by a Russell Group university raises questions about the 2015 decision to uncap student numbers and leave UK HE provision entirely to market forces timeshighereducation.com/new…

Our strike action began today. The management at our university has seemingly shackled itself to course closures and compulsory redundancies, despite neither being financially necessary. So we fight for our members, our students, and our community until they change their minds.

Who could possibly have guessed that experienced property developers might be a lot better at it than a group of self-congratulatory, overpromoted, failed academics?

An iconic Hexagonal Emerald Cased Verge Watch carved from a single large Colombian emerald crystal around 1600 AD. This piece is part of the Cheapside Hoard, a buried collection comprising around 500 pieces of jewelry and gemstones from the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras. The hoard was hidden for safekeeping around 1640 during the English Civil War and remained undisturbed until June 1912, when workmen discovered it by chance while excavating the cellar of a building in Cheapside, London. The watch is one of the most extraordinary and famous pieces of jewelry from the early 17th century. The body and hinged lid of the case were meticulously carved from a single, naturally hexagonal Colombian emerald crystal. The craftsman cut the top slice to serve as a translucent lid and hollowed out the center of the main crystal to house the watch mechanism, which dates to approximately 1600. The emerald crystal was mined in Colombia—likely at the famous Muzo mines—and traded by the Spanish until it reached Europe, while the precision-engineered internal mechanism is of Swiss/Genevan origin; the gold dial features engraved Roman numerals and is decorated with a layer of translucent dark green enamel that perfectly matches the gemstone's hue. It is currently part of the permanent collection at the London Museum. #drthehistories
