So if you’re getting annoyed with the AI overview at the top of your Google search page, Ruby Granger recently shared a very useful trick: just type “-ai” at the end of your query and it will give you the results without AI, like the Google we once had.

Unless I’m working in an ER, or working as a paramedic, or working as a firefighter, there’s no reason I should be expected to “thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.” Just fix the terrible management and stop running your office like a circus.
Can we shift the discourse from the problems with OUP to whatever the hell has just happened to Yale UP? If anyone needs me, I'll be out back making my own paper, binding it, and writing out copies of my next book by hand.

Peasants sustained empires, financed states, built cities & made revolutions. Modernity was supposed to make them disappear. It didn’t. There are more peasants today than at any point in history.

This is why we will be getting news about the restructuring just before the end of this month.

For a lot of places, October is the make or break month, because it is when they know for certain how many foreign students, especially from China, they have recruited.

Those of us born into and raised in postcolonial 'self-determined' entities understand in a way that perhaps those in white ex-coloniser nations don't: the self-determined nation state is NOT exempt from fundamental criticism or vigilance. It must always be held to account.
