RN Wildcat helicopters have demonstrated their ability to defend warships against uncrewed threats during Exercise Wildfire with the 🇫🇷French Navy.
A Wildcat HMA2 from @815NAS joined the French Carrier Strike Group off Toulon for five days of demanding air-defence training, detecting, tracking and engaging uncrewed aerial and surface targets.
The Wildcat fired Martlet missiles during live engagements to defend the task group, demonstrating a weapon combination increasingly relevant for drone threats
The French force included six ships, among them air-defence destroyers, a La Fayette-class frigate, a Chevallier-class replenishment ship and an LHD. Rafale Marine fighters, maritime patrol aircraft and French helicopters also took part.
Exercise Wildfire also included the first testing of France’s Rampart defence system from the LHD, using a laser-guided rocket to destroy a target. Interceptor drones intended to defeat hostile drones and surface craft were also trialled.

@HMSQNLZ departs from Belfast today following an historic visit, which saw her become the first Royal Navy aircraft carrier to visit the city in more than 60 years. The ship now turns her attentions to NATO operations.

After a demanding deployment across the Mediterranean and Middle East, @HMSDragon returns home. Armed with Martlet and Sea Venom missiles, Wildcat provided airborne combat capability, complementing Dragon’s Sea Viper AD.

🎥@HMSPortland has fired her Naval Strike Missile, which we procured from Norway, for the first time.
Her Wildcat helicopter also completed a live firing of Sea Venom, with both missiles striking the ex-US Navy frigate USS Klakring at the MOD Hebrides range alongside US forces.

During Exercise Atlantic Thunder 26, UK 🇬🇧 and U.S. 🇺🇸 forces combined surface, air and subsurface strike capabilities against a decommissioned U.S. Navy frigate in the North Atlantic.
The strike sequence brought together SM-6 from USS Paul Ignatius, Naval Strike Missile and Sea Venom from HMS Portland and its Wildcat helicopter, before USS Massachusetts delivered the final strike with a Mk 48 torpedo.
A powerful demonstration of integrated maritime strike — linking sensors, platforms and weapons across domains to deliver coordinated effect at range.
