I live in Woodford. Easy, you say - the 42B will get me there in an hour. But it's not the Woodford in Greater Manchester, but the one on the Greater London/Essex boundary. Can it be done? I'll find out tomorrow. #Notthe42B

Time to reveal tomorrow's objective. Having just become eligible for my OAP Freedom Pass, which is valid on any 'local' bus in England (as defined by the Transport Act 1985), I'm attempting to travel home from Manchester tomorrow for free. (Channelling my inner @politic_animal)

It was six years ago today, having just got an Oyster 60+ card, that I completed the challenge of visiting within a week the then 668 stations that one could travel to for free. Six years on my 60+ Oyster has been replaced with a Freedom Pass. I feel a new challenge coming.
All done! Beckton (668/668) in a hail storm.

Three years ago today, I finished my 60+challenge of visiting 668 stations in just six days. If I were to try again and do them at the rate I have visited stations in the past year it would take 111 years!
Given this week's escapade was to mark my 60th birthday, it seems relevant that I finished at the very site where my father was working 60 years ago, helping build new coke ovens for Beckton gas works.
It was three years ago today that I set off to visit within a week all 668 stations that you could then travel to for free using an Oyster 60+ Card. In the past 12 months I've clocked up just six stations.
Starting the 60+ Card Challenge at Roding Valley, the least used LU station & not in Greater London. Nobody else here.

It will be harder for someone to do this once the pandemic is over, since there are now three more stations and the 60+ card is not valid on any services before 9am.
A reminder of my other Twitter account, which has been used far less frequently than I hoped when I set it up in January.
I set up this account back in January to complement what was going to be my weekly blog about exploring Europe. europeexplored.travel.blog As I've been nowhere this year, blog posts are now only monthly and tweets are infrequent. Hopefully, this will change for the better in 2021.
Two years ago today I commenced my 60+ challenge - visiting within a week all 668 stations possible for free on a 60+ Oyster Card.

Was seeing someone off at Heathrow, so took the opportunity to ride on TfL Rail for free & visit the three Heathrow NR stations which weren't part of the 60+ Challenge back in March.
