Huge congratulations to Peter. Well deserved!
Prof Peter Becker has been elected chair of the EMBL Council and will assume his duties in January 2023. “I am honoured to have been selected as Chair of EMBL Council. The next few years promise significant scientific progress.” embl.org/news/lab-matters/pe… 📸 @LMU_Muenchen

We find no evidence that the formation of "transcriptional condensates" amplifies gene expression or increases transcription activation tinyurl.com/y56tof9c

"At its best, science is a self-correcting march toward greater knowledge for the betterment of humanity. At its worst, it is a self-interested pursuit of greater prestige at the cost of truth and rigor." hear, hear!
🚨I wrote the Atlantic’s next cover story on the COVIDization of science. No other disease has been scrutinized so intensely, by so much combined intellect, in so brief a time. This piece is about both the victories achieved & the weaknesses exposed. 1/ theatlantic.com/magazine/arc…

We have had encouraging discussions in our @IJMonod forum about prioritizing not-for-profit publishing, and not being enraptured by NPG and Elsevier for our labs and for our recruitment. If this is in line with your philosophy I encourage you to apply to join us!

If you download the raw ChIP-seq data from a high profile paper there's usually about a 50% chance that it just looks like sonicated DNA. Mapped data from a Science paper today and there was just no enrichment anywhere. A giveaway is when there are no tracks shown in the paper.

Out today - less than a week after the defence of my PhD thesis! We took a somewhat evolutionary perspective to talk about "unusual" flavors of H2A.Z remodelers. Check it out! authors.elsevier.com/c/1c5Lx…

Please RT. We are recruiting a PostDoc to study epigenetic mechanisms. Cutting-edge methods to predict, observe, and manipulate epigenetic processes - Develop and execute the next breakthrough ideas. #epigenetics helmholtz-muenchen.de/filead….
Happy to start this week by sharing our new story showing that the transcriptional activity of the genome can be regulated by modulating the levels of pervasive histone modifications, such as H2AK119ub1, without the need for elaborate gene-specific targeting mechanisms 1/3

Thank you very much for inviting me - it was very inspiring
This year’s lab retreat took place at home and featured great talks by @5_Baldi, @dhnisz, @bulutkarslioglu, Markus Wahl and Jan-Philipp Juncker. Great variety from structure to condensates to cell transitions.
