Did you actually miss the fact that schools will be ioen 5 days a week
Studies also highlight that a 4 day week is more productive

Excl: Teachers could be allowed to work four-day weeks under government plans to give schools greater flexibility over working hours.
Schools will still have to provide lessons five days a week but Lucy Powell, the education secretary, has asked an independent pay review body to consider how to scrap the requirement for individual full-time teachers to be available for work on 195 days a year.
The reforms could allow teachers to complete their contracted hours over fewer days and ministers are also considering removing the ceiling on teachers’ salaries - both in a bid to help schools attract and retain staff.
A government source stressed that the five-day school week would not change and that the reforms were about bringing the rules for council-maintained schools into line with those for academies.

A 32 hour four day work week without loss in pay would do more for our overall quality of life and wellbeing than nearly any other singular socioeconomic change

The four-day-week should be the ambition for all working people, unions and anyone with an interest improving lives.
“Productivity” improvements shouldn’t just be billionaires making more money.

I know I keep banging on about the four-day week. But I keep banging on about it because it’s possible.
We’ve been doing it @hellostarling_ since 2019.
We haven’t crammed four long days with five days’ work. We genuinely work 28-hours per week. 4 days with 5 days pay. @4Day_Week @4DayWeekCymru
7 years on, we’re still here. Growing, winning business, doing great work for brilliant clients and, I think, running a better business because of it.
I’m not pretending it’s easy. You have to be disciplined. You have to get better at meetings, communication, processes, handovers and deciding what actually needs doing and you have to trust people.
And as I type this, I think that’s the point. The 4 day week forced us to become a better agency.
If as a nation we could move from six days to five, there’s absolutely no reason we should assume five is where the story has to end.
If you think it’s impossible to get everything done in 28 hours per week, think again!
Back in 2019, long before the four-day working week became cool, we decided to rethink how Hello Starling operated. Seven years later, we're proud to be recognised as a Gold Standard four-day week employer, but the real success isn't the accreditation; it's the stronger agency and business we've built along the way.
This isn't a story about working less (although working 28 hours per week does feel good); it's about working better!
Here are the lessons we've learned, the challenges we've overcome and why we'd never go back.

After 6 years leading the @4Day_Week Foundation/Campaign, tomorrow is my last day as Campaign Director.
I'm proud we've taken the four-day week from being a fringe idea to a mainstream & viable policy which has already been implemented by at least 500 organisations in the UK.

When people find out that over at @hellostarling_ we've been working 28 hours per week for the last 7 years, I often get asked the same questions:
Surely that can't work in an agency?
Do clients mind?
Doesn't it just mean longer days?
How do you fit everything in with just 28 hours in a week?
But I can honestly say that 7 years on, it works and it's not because we've somehow squeezed five days into four, but because we've completely changed the way we work.
Are we perfect? No! Could we be better at saying no to meetings that don't have a purpose? Yes! But we have become better at planning our workloads, and we're more intentional with our time.
And let's be honest, no good idea ever came from sitting in back to back meetings for 6 hours a day for 5 days.
We've learned plenty along the way, and we're still refining how we work today, but since making the move in 2019, we have continued to grow, win brilliant clients, recruit awesome people and deliver award-winning work.
I genuinely believe that being a @4Day_Week Foundation Gold Standard Employer has helped make us a better agency, and the reality is, if our team are happy, our clients are happy, and that can only be good for business 💛
Check out this article I wrote if you want to find out more about how we made (and continue to make) it work.

I genuinely think the standard workday should be 10 a.m.–3 p.m. or 9 a.m.–2 p.m. There’s no reason people should spend the majority of their lives at work. Let people get home with enough time to be with their families, partners, and friends, pursue hobbies, and actually rest. A lot of today’s burnout and unhappiness comes from the fact that work consumes almost all of our waking hours.
This is why the CWU T&FS is campaigning for a shorter working week. Great video from our friends at the @4Day_Week foundation.

The world today is characterized by large-scale inequalities. And a climate crisis is looming over us.
We urgently need a new vision for global progress in the 21st Century. One that grounds human development and equality in planetary habitability.
What would it take to achieve high prosperity and equality while remaining within planetary boundaries?

Too many people feel trapped in a system where life revolves around work.
A 4 day week, without loss of pay, would transform how we work, helping people spend more time with families.
I asked if the First Minister would commit to expanding the 4 day week in the public sector.

more sleep
less stress
more home cooking

more time with family/community

Despite the efforts of:
- The Tories, who hounded them when in government & who vow to ban the four-day week.
- Labour, who continued the Tory campaign against them.
- Taxpayers Alliance, who ran the campaign against them.
The UK's 4DW council has been given a bigger mandate.
**Thumping victory for first four-day week council**
This is a major victory for the Liberal Democrats, who championed the policy, and a clear rejection of attempts by opponents to block it.
Other councils across the country should now step up and follow their lead!
