I know I keep banging on about the four-day week. But I keep banging on about it because it’s possible. We’ve been doing it @hellostarling_ since 2019. We haven’t crammed four long days with five days’ work. We genuinely work 28-hours per week. 4 days with 5 days pay. @4Day_Week @4DayWeekCymru 7 years on, we’re still here. Growing, winning business, doing great work for brilliant clients and, I think, running a better business because of it. I’m not pretending it’s easy. You have to be disciplined. You have to get better at meetings, communication, processes, handovers and deciding what actually needs doing and you have to trust people. And as I type this, I think that’s the point. The 4 day week forced us to become a better agency. If as a nation we could move from six days to five, there’s absolutely no reason we should assume five is where the story has to end.
If you think it’s impossible to get everything done in 28 hours per week, think again! Back in 2019, long before the four-day working week became cool, we decided to rethink how Hello Starling operated. Seven years later, we're proud to be recognised as a Gold Standard four-day week employer, but the real success isn't the accreditation; it's the stronger agency and business we've built along the way. This isn't a story about working less (although working 28 hours per week does feel good); it's about working better! Here are the lessons we've learned, the challenges we've overcome and why we'd never go back. hellostarling.com/news-views… @4Day_Week @4DayWeekCymru

Did you know that marketing and branding are among the most commonly reported skills gaps in Wales’ creative industries. Which is another reason why connecting, developing and championing Welsh marketers matters 👌 codi.cymru

Good media planning isn’t about trying to squeeze as many channels as possible onto a plan; it's about making the right choices. buff.ly/96qWWL4

Choosing a media buying agency can look straightforward from the outside. You speak to a few agencies, sit through some credentials presentations, compare the fees and choose the team that made the best impression. But there is a lot more to it! buff.ly/cYslLlk

A media plan should do more than decide where money gets spent. It should answer a bigger question. Here are 5 questions that every media plan should answer before any investment is made. buff.ly/hJRXc4G

Four things I’ve always thought a great awards event should be about: 1) Free! Money shouldn’t be a barrier to recognition. 2) Judges who know what they’re talking about. 3) It’s not all about the money, money, money! Brilliant marketing comes in so many different shapes and forms. We will recognise that. 4) A bloody good time! Nobody knows how to put on a party like a marketer, so the brief to my team has been: “Make this an event that marketers leave saying, ‘That was the best awards event I’ve ever been to and I can’t wait until next year.’” Over 300 marketers, agency folk and media owners have signed up for updates at codi.cymru and if you haven’t yet, get involved! There’s big news on the horizon! 😉

You'd be surprised at how many briefs we receive that still rely on outdated assumptions about how people over the age of 50 think, behave and consume media. So we're here to explain why this market matters more than ever. buff.ly/nRskF1r

When people find out that over at @hellostarling_ we've been working 28 hours per week for the last 7 years, I often get asked the same questions: Surely that can't work in an agency? Do clients mind? Doesn't it just mean longer days? How do you fit everything in with just 28 hours in a week? But I can honestly say that 7 years on, it works and it's not because we've somehow squeezed five days into four, but because we've completely changed the way we work. Are we perfect? No! Could we be better at saying no to meetings that don't have a purpose? Yes! But we have become better at planning our workloads, and we're more intentional with our time. And let's be honest, no good idea ever came from sitting in back to back meetings for 6 hours a day for 5 days. We've learned plenty along the way, and we're still refining how we work today, but since making the move in 2019, we have continued to grow, win brilliant clients, recruit awesome people and deliver award-winning work. I genuinely believe that being a @4Day_Week Foundation Gold Standard Employer has helped make us a better agency, and the reality is, if our team are happy, our clients are happy, and that can only be good for business 💛 Check out this article I wrote if you want to find out more about how we made (and continue to make) it work. hellostarling.com/news-views…

Seven years ago, we introduced a four-day working week. It hasn't been about working less (although working 28 hours per week is great); it's been about working smarter, building a stronger agency and delivering better results for our clients. buff.ly/tsuj1M1
