He was 34 years old 🇺🇸 🕊️ Born not breathing after a prolonged labour (described as a doctor's error), causing him brain damage that led to cerebral palsy. Adopted weeks after birth because his mother had ovarian cancer and was told she could not have children. His younger sister arrived unexpectedly 11 years later. Learned he was adopted around age 6–8 when a stepbrother bluntly told him his parents "don’t love you" As a toddler, his legs were cast for six months; doctors predicted he would need a wheelchair for life. His mother stretched his legs daily. He credits her persistence (and soccer) with helping him outgrow braces and crutches. Shortly after his sister's birth, his mother was paralysed in a car accident. As a child he changed diapers, cared for her, and became the family's main breadwinner by 13 Severely bullied. His peers pushed him, stomped on and broke his hand and foot. His mother shouted "Run, Forrest, Run!" while he played soccer in braces and casts. His father had bipolar disorder and schizophrenia with little involvement; grandparents largely filled the parental role. He has said he devoted his life to supporting his mother and sister and continued doing so as an adult. As a teenager during Breaking Bad, he took ballroom dancing lessons (joking it was a social way to meet girls). His maternal grandfather, who used a wheelchair after a stroke, taught him that "can't is a decision" He and longtime partner Kennedy Suarez (together since 2018) became engaged in late 2025. He was promoting new projects in the days before his death. . . . . . Oh my He has faced sooo much. So soooo much. Just look at all what he has faced. His mother, his father, his grandfather, etc Then he became an adult at 13 years old and had to take care of his sister when his mother was paralysed in the accident. The bullying, everything. . . So much painful history he has had. So many experiences at childhood. They probably came flooding back to him recently and he just couldn't take it any longer. He just couldn't anymore. . . I don't know what to say. I'm very weak just writing all these and reading his history. Irony of the week. This is really so funny. Until last Sunday Starknet was the "dead chain" meme. Down 97 to 98% from the 2024 highs, revenue in free fall, thin TVL, a 127 million STRK unlock every single month, the airdrop drama, the outages. One exchange delisted spot and perps on October 5. Then October 8. The quantum topic explodes, Eli Ben-Sasson floats the idea of leaving Ethereum to become an L1, "the first fully quantum-resistant network, 2027 target". $STRK goes from under $0.06 to above $0.11 in days and leads the whole market for a while. Now read it again. "Actively considering". Not a decision, not a date, not a line of code shipped. TVL, revenue and supply are exactly what they were last Sunday. On October 15 another 127 million STRK unlock to investors and early contributors. Five more of those follow, one every month until March 2027.

Opening and closing a Ledger Nano X

The funds from the $3.8M NEAR Intents exploit have been returned, just one day later, and the investigation is closed. Thanks to SHIELD, the AI security layer on Intents, along with some aggressive detective work, the Intents team identified the party responsible less than 24h after the hack, established communication, and got the funds back in full at 14:30 UTC today. Thank you to @alexauroradev and the whole @near_intents team for this fast and clean resolution – as well as the broader @NEARProtocol ecosystem and SHIELD partners for the support and help. There’s been relentless work over the past 24 hours by so many people to make this right and it is a great testament to this community’s values and determination. To echo Alex: for security researchers looking for exploits, we encourage you to use bug bounties. They exist for a reason. At NEAR, we believe that privacy is a right, but not as a way to facilitate crime. Our technology is built to expand human agency and opportunity, not to facilitate criminal activity. The events of the last week have shown the value of SHIELD to find suspicious activity before things escalate too far, as well as to accelerate resolution so the vast majority of legitimate users are not affected. Confidentiality cannot come at the expense of lawfulness and I strongly believe it doesn’t have to. We’ve learned a great deal from this incident and work is already underway to harden our security systems and further adapt to the changing cybersecurity landscape. AI may be accelerating exploits, but it can also help us defend against them. I hope our entire industry responds with vigilance and feels the same sense of urgency to work together.
