This is a disaster for Chicago on so many levels, and yet, I'm still going to attend so many community meetings this year full of people complaining that Chicago is building too much new housing.
Here are the 20 metro areas with the greatest increase and decrease in apartment construction from 2024 to 2025. A lot of red Southern cities in the green, but Chicago, Madison, MSP, Portland, San Jose, San Francisco all in the top 10 for greatest declines.

Obviously running for mayor. When will we have a mayor that cares about bus riders AFTER they get elected?
What’s worse: getting ghosted by your date, or your bus?

I genuinely don’t understand how the politics of red states are more progressive on housing issues than blue states. Explain to me like I’m 5.
BOOM! The North Carolina State House just unanimously (107 to 0) passed a ban on parking minimums in new developments statewide. This is powerful and bipartisan pro-housing reform that will make it easier to expand multifamily housing. Great work. ncleg.gov/BillLookUp/2025/h3…

According to the 2023 Census data (estimates) there's 105K-110K people in the city without a car who use public transit to get to work Now think about all the businesses they work at and keep in business, and what happens to the businesses if those people lcan't get to work now

In response to the racist vitriol I’m listening to right now let me say: migrants and undocumented Chicagoans ARE Chicagoans. Their home is HERE. And we are not letting them be stolen away from their communities.

A narrow band of heavy rainfall associated with training t-storms is expected to develop late this evening and continue into Tuesday morning across Northern Illinois. Storms may produce small hail and gusty winds but localized very heavy rainfall is the main hazard. A narrow band of 2-4 inches of rain is possible with widespread 1-2 inches of rain elsewhere. Timing 9pm Monday through 7am Tuesday. #ilwx

He could significantly mitigate this by hiking vehicle sticker fees. Drivers get basically free car storage on public property across swaths of our entire city.

Let's talk about equity and speeding in Chicago. 🧵 In 2021, Black Chicagoans were killed in crashes at 3.8x the rate of all other residents. The West & South sides experience a high concentration of severe crashes vs. downtown, despite having less density & street activity.
Here’s what Mayor Brandon Johnson had to say about Chicago’s speed limit potentially dropping to 25 mph: Johnson said he told sponsor Ald. Daniel La Spata to “slow” the effort amid equity concerns (La Spata withheld the ordinance from a potential vote yesterday)👇
