Building permit was issued the other day to construct a new 5 story, 99 unit building at 3243 N Sheffield in Lakeview. It'll replace the 1 and 2 story Torstenson Glass buildings. This is a 3 minute walk to the Belmont Red/Brown/Purple line stop and near a bunch of other things

Rick Bayless to open a new Tortazo location at 200 N Michigan Ave in The Loop in Spring 2027. Between Millennium Park and the Chicago River. There's one at Sears Tower + Skokie and Jokiet. Also one in Las Vegas. Thanks to Mr. South Loop for the tip!

Turns out this will be an Old Navy store (owned by Gap). This will mark a return to State Street for Old Navy as they left their 32K sq ft location at State & Randolph at the end of 2022. That former spot is now taken by Barnes & Noble, which opened in August this year.

Gap to open up a new Loop store at 20 S State Street in Chicago. According to a permit submitted today, they will look to open a 2 story store at that location which is just over 13,000 sq ft. That space was Urban Outfitters, which closed I'm pretty sure in 2020 or 2021.

Permit was issued yesterday to build a new 5 story 78 unit building on the surface lot at Ashland & Leland in Uptown. This is the parking lot of the former Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School. That school was already converted to 42 units in late 2024.

The 6 story building they'll go into was completed for construction in 2024. The 2 spots these 2 places will go into are the first tenants. Before this building was the 1 story Santorini restaurant, which closed abruptly in either late 2020 or early 2021.

New plans for the site of the former Palace Grill in West Loop (Madison & Loomis), which closed after 80 years in business in Feb 2024 after a fire ripped thru it. Platinum Homes has submitted a permit to build a new 5 story, 24 unit + retail building on the site.

Noah Properties purchased the 3 story office building at 225 W Superior in River North recently for $4.8M. There is a pending permit to tear it down too. What will it become? Hopefully something dense incoming. Zoned DX-5 meaning probably 50-100 units as of right, I think.

There are some articles claiming they'll convert to apartments. However, there is literally a pending demolition permit for this building. Not so sure it's going to be a conversion.
