"What actually is SCR?" Asked constantly, explained badly everywhere. So here's the whole thing in one thread, in plain English, no jargon. Because these rules explain half of Newcastle's summer. 🧵🖤🤍 #NUFC

🚨 BREAKING: Eddie Howe speaks as NUFC confirm he has stood down as head coach 🗣️ “After a period of personal reflection, I have decided that now is the right time for me to step away from my role as head coach of Newcastle United. “After nearly five years of giving my life, heart and soul into the club with unrelenting energy, I feel that it is in the best interests of both myself and the club to step away, recharge and take a break. “Although it’s been incredibly difficult to make this decision, I know in my heart that it’s the right one. I have always put the best interests of Newcastle before my own in every single decision I have made whilst I’ve been here and this one is no different. “It has been the privilege of my lifetime to have been the manager of Newcastle United. It is difficult to put into words what this club, the city and its supporters mean, and will always mean, to me and my family. From the moment myself, Jason and all of the staff arrived nearly half a decade ago, Newcastle instantly felt like home and the people here welcomed us with open arms. We took huge pride in representing the club from day one and this city will always hold a very special place in our hearts. “There have been so many incredible moments in our time here. From fighting relegation in our first season to the numerous unforgettable nights at St. James’ Park in the Champions League soon after. The progression was fast. Everyone came together, united and what a force we became, culminating in bringing home our first domestic trophy in 70 years. These are all memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. “I would like to put on record my sincere thanks and appreciation to Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Jamie Reuben, Jacobo Solís and everyone at PIF, David Hopkinson, Ross Wilson and the entire ownership and leadership group for placing their trust in me and for giving me the opportunity to lead this special football club. I remain incredibly positive and enthusiastic about the future of Newcastle. The club is in fantastic hands with a great leadership team and I have no doubt together, alongside whoever comes in to replace me, they will continue to deliver success on the pitch. “Thank you to Jason Tindall, Graeme Jones, Stephen Purches, Simon Weatherstone, Dan Hodges, Andy Howe and Jordan Tribe for their incredible loyalty, support and dedication and to all of the amazing staff behind the scenes whose hard work and loyalty makes this club what it is. A special thank you to all of the players who have represented the club during my time here. Without you, nothing would have been possible and it’s been an honour to have coached you all. “Finally, and most importantly, thank you to our incredible supporters. Your passion and loyalty have inspired me every single day. To stand on the touchline at St. James’ Park as your manager with the honour of representing your club has meant more to me than you will ever know. While my journey as manager has now come to an end, the affinity and love I will always hold for Newcastle United never will. “Thank you for everything. I wish the club every success for the future.”

My feelings
Ever since I became politically aware it has always seemed fundamentally wrong to make profit out of providing key essentials for people. Education, health, water supply & the now very topical care of the elderly, should be all about service not profit. I don't much care what political label is attached to those views, but they are causes worth striving for. Just look at the mess privatisation has brought to much of what we once had.

Farage sulks because he's not invited to a cross-party meeting. He"s not an MP because he resigned. He left the institution, but still wants to be included? Sounds familiar.

The far-right rant about a fantastical Muslim invasion, as if Muslim immigrants made up a coherent army, with a single ideology. The truth is that Muslim immigrants are as diverse as Christians, coming from different countries, with different languages, political views, versions of Islam, and degree of religious observance. Only ignorant fools and fascist politicians recycling Nazi propaganda tactics will believe or pretend to believe that there is an Islamist invasion taking place. One thing that the fascists and the Islamist extremists won't mention is that they share a visceral hatred of everything liberal and woke. They are two cheeks of the same illiberal arse. – at Brighton, England

Arsenal want to sign Bruno Guimarães AND Ezri Konsa for £100m or less. They've helped created PSR to suit their "elite" status, but they don't want to pay the high fees which clubs like Newcastle and Aston Villa need to survive. Arsenal make modern "journalists" do their dirty work and unsettle players so much that they force a move. It's a disgrace. Liverpool did it with Isak and the plan worked. Now its Arsenal's turn. You'd think that after winning the league title Arsenal would learn some grace, but they're just a trash club with trash fans. Don't sell to them! #NUFC #AVFC

The disconnect for me is that the people running the club talk about becoming one of the biggest clubs in world football, while supporters are sat here just wanting us to not have every fan base in the country taking the piss out of us. They just want to see a club that acts with competence, authority and ambition. A club that isn’t constantly losing out on targets, getting dragged through public sagas or finding itself at the centre of ridicule. Fans have been asked to pay more through memberships, ticket increases, shirts and merchandise. That’s fine if the football operation is moving forward too. But right now it feels like supporters are being sold a vision of what Newcastle might become while repeatedly being asked to ignore what’s happening in front of them. Nobody expects perfection. They just expect better than this. And the reality is that perception matters. Players, agents and clubs all see the same headlines and hear the same narratives. At some point Newcastle need a genuine breakthrough moment that changes how the club is viewed across football. Not another promise, not another five-year plan. A statement that shows we’re becoming what we’re told we’re aspiring to be.

Absolutely. Farage is a charlatan
Those people saying that we can't have fun with the Binface By-Election in light of recent events need to understand that it's possible to be sad and shocked by a murder but still believe that @Nigel_Farage is a corrupt, comical, conman who deserves to be humiliated.

Listen here, @LucyTCWife - you were out there baying for blood, screaming for heads on spikes like some half-mad priestess of the gutter, and that grinning weathervane Farage wanted to pat you on the head and let you skip away whistling. But the second some bastard turns the same heat on him, suddenly the shrivelled little troll is cupping his dusty raisins and squealing for the cops to lock the lot of them in a hole forever. Hypocrisy so thick you could spread it on toast and call it democracy. The lot of you can choke on it. Your thoughts? bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8r2…

There are many reasons to dislike Reform UK, many things they say and do that upset and rankle others — mostly by design and sometimes accidentally. When this happens, it's fair game to take them to task. A member of their party has been murdered, and it is shocking and a genuine tragedy so it should be only natural to feel some sympathy and express solidarity with them. But. The last two days have shown us who Reform UK [and their cheerleaders] truly are. Before the microphones were even turned off from the police press statements, in which they pleaded for people not to speculate and respect Widdecombe's family, Farage and his tribe were making plans to exploit this tragic event. They have spent three days speculating and pushing out propaganda, personally and through their pet pundits in the press. Not a second has passed since Friday without the far-right demanding to know police investigatory details — same as they did for Henry Nowack — same as they did for Southport. It is disgusting. Now I don't, for a single second, think that this is anything besides a tragic murder but … Nigel Farage must think all his Christmases have come at once with the timing of this. That sounds terribly callous, but I don't sway from that statement. He has weaponised the death of one of his staff members in a way I'd hitherto thought possible. What five million pounds? Which Montenegro casino? Who's George Cottrell? I do not enjoy writing [or thinking] such things, but it's true, isn't it? He's swept this up, created a maelstrom of diversion, and can sit back and claim to be the victim. Again. The model of a charmless man. Blur's song could have been written about Nigel Farage, go and read the lyrics, it's uncanny. A man so devoid of humanity that we have reached that point in his career of lowlights, that he's scraped through the bottom of the barrel and is now tunnelling past the vestibule towards the Ninth Circle.

Tesco could pay every worker an extra £10,000 and still make a profit. British Gas could pay every worker an extra £35,000 and still make a profit. Shell could pay every worker an extra £300,000 and still make a profit. It is the billionaires who are ripping you off.
