It takes so many people to make a #WCEU happen, they never fit on one picture. Thanks to each and everyone of them!

Fair is not "only" about distribution, @photomatt. It's about "real" ownership, independency. Your point around security: why is WP.org not giving notice when a plugin is removed from rep because of insecurity. 🤨.

It is now one year ago that I asked @photomatt about closed plugins not showing up as closed at the Q&A of WordCamp Europe in Turino.
The ticket is amazing 11 years old.
Would love an update on this! #WCEU2025 #WCEU

Talking about the Open Web Alliance, @photomatt says “…we want to support in whichever way we can”.
However, the OWA site says @WordPress’ membership is paused: openwebsitealliance.org

During @photomatt's QnA in #WCEU2025 #WCEU in Basel, the GDPR, the European regulation on privacy was mentioned, but I think the point was missed. It is not about users blocking companies from infringing on their personal data, it's about companies being transparent and accountable about what they do with the user's personal data.
Hi @photomatt my #WCEU question: The mission of WordPress is to democratize publishing - when will you democratize the governance of the WordPress Project? #WCEU2025

Bombshell news out of the @altctrlorg event alongside #WCEU: FAIR (Federated and Independent Repositories) introduces a #wordpress package manager in an aim to fully decentralize & futureproof WP by insulating the ecosystem from the anti-competitive whims of @photomatt
Backed by the @linuxfoundation and hundreds of contributors the project was coordinated by @jdevalk and @karimmarucchi and has an all-star technical steering committee of @Ipstenu @cdils and @rmccue.
This is a huge step in a great direction #wpdrama #WCEU2025

All this #wpdrama will affect #WordPress's market share, powering the web as we move forward. Companies won't want to spend money on a platform where the actions of one person can suddenly compromise their website's security and functionality. It's really unfortunate.

The plugin repository should be mirrored. On hundreds of hosts around the globe. With auto nearest alive mirror selection implemented asap inside WP. Exactly as Linux package managers do. If WP wants to be serious about it's open source character. Otherwise forget it. #wpdrama
