Poison an entire city & the charges get dismissed but someone stealing food to survive or sheltering on a train in freezing weather gets criminalized. This is how crime is socially constructed: criminalize mostly poor people for petty offenses while legitimizing mass harm.

No one should have to relive their personal trauma in public spaces in order for others to recognize their humanity. Fuck SCOTUS.
In true family holiday style, I spent 8 hours cooking and 6 hours showing my dad how to use his new flip phone (yes, you read that right).

My little hometown bookstore featured on Colbert’s Late Show! I love them so much and am very happy such a wonderful place was featured in such a thoughtful and entertaining way: youtu.be/knj-EgX3Uhc
I don’t have kids, but I encounter them every day. They’re learning really important shit right now; it just doesn’t immediately equate to dollars so our education system lacks a measurement system...
Kids are not falling behind. They are surviving a pandemic.

That tiny blue county in the upper left corner of NC that no one will talk about on the news is in the heart of Appalachia #Elections2020 #fuckyoujdvance
Nothing like a weekend of wood chopping/hauling and political campaigning in rural NC with my quarantine crew.

I can’t promise that I’ll respond with an offensively personalized “fuck you” if you contact me about college students and personal responsibility this week, but I also can’t promise that I won’t.

“I should know more about you before I make decisions based on your behalf” is a thing I just said, earnestly, to a tree in my house because I was thinking about planting it outside.

Living in a place where people come to “vacation” during a global pandemic is its own special kind of surreal.
I had some dental surgery that led to more dental surgery and then I woke up and we were in WWIII and I’m pretty sure I voted against that.

Who counts as a family? According to @cvspharmacy, all parents must share the same last name as their child. Some developer added an if-check, probably without thinking about it too much, and ended up codifying their own cultural norms into the medical system.

Love the class day when we’re a third of the way through *Zone One* & the half of the class who “love Nicholas Sparks” are sure that Mark & Kaitlyn will fall in love & everything will be ok while the other half have figured out what I mean when I say “post-apocalyptic fiction”

Nothing more annoying than a drunk straight white dude who wants to be a writer and spends 15 minutes explaining the moral ambiguity of Watchman and why his top 5 contemporary writers are all straight white dudes and then asks you how to spell Thomas Pynchon.
