One thing I love talking about on the #Match2022 interview trail is the collage art I make. Much like medical training, each successive work benefits from the lessons of its predecessors.
This is “Trinity Alps” from 2016. Loose on form but big on color.
One of my friends has ankylosing spondylitis and I consulted him while designing this card to be sure it rang true

I spent a good chunk of time on this card drawing a toddler and highlighting the CRASH features, only to realize later I’d made a radioactive super baby

Honestly, Waits’ is the best version of the title theme
Happy 74th Birthday to Tom Waits.
Tom Waits - composer of the show’s title theme, 'Way Down In The Hole' - agreed that #TheWire’s producers could make use of the song provided they first let him see the show. Videotapes were promptly dispatched to the Waits household, followed by weeks of agonizing silence. When the execs finally got the courage to give the legendary singer-songwriter a call, Mr Waits explained that he'd received the cassettes but he couldn't play them because he didn't know how to operate his VCR. "My wife knows how to use it and she'll be back in a couple of days," Waits continued. Two days later, a release was signed. (IMDb)

I’ve seen a handful of LVAD patients thus far in residency, and I always pull this card up on my phone as we’re getting the patient on the monitors #medtwitter

The correct take—as always—from the superior Kelce
Jason Kelce goes in on Twizzlers: “There is just nothing good about them. The fact that people are making money off of selling them is mind blowing to me.. I see people eating them, I just don’t know how in a world with Laffy Taffy’s and Fruit Roll Ups, why? They have nothing going for them.. The texture isn’t even good. You chew it and it’s like a weird plasticity texture, they fold in your mouth.. I don’t think there’s one redeeming quality to them.”
Hot take? Or is he right? 👀

WINNER: Emergency Medicine.
The big story of Match Week 2023 was the 500+ EM positions available in the SOAP, caused by a rapid drop in EM applicants.
But this year, EM applicants are up 33% (driven mainly by increases in DO and IMG applicants).
It’s the most inconspicuous details that make me happy as an artist. Take for example the slogan above the Washyourhands Post headline: “Bacteria Die in Chlorhexadine”
