Evan Larsen, the director of The Weeknd’s ‘Hong Kong’ music video, speaks to the South China Morning Post “The Weeknd gave me a list of movies to check out before I arrived to get inspired by the city before I saw it in person. That definitely helped, and we wanted to lean into that.” He said the cinematography of the music video was heavily inspired by Hong Kong film director Wong Kar-wai’s Fallen Angels. Also on the film list were Wong’s Chungking Express and John Woo’s A Better Tomorrow and Hard Boiled.
