Cell phone addiction is an absolute thermonuke to the brain and nobody 'takes it seriously' because it is not clear that there is any solution in a world where the revealed preference of everyone across the globe, regardless of income, race, age, any factor whatsoever, would rather be on their phone than do *anything* else. Deciding "I use this too much" and meaningfully altering one's behaviour doesn't seem to have much success for any of the very small minority of people with the sentience or self-reflection to realize how bad it is. Most people seem to think of it as an unproductive habit at most, rather than an addiction. Any attempt to speak seriously about this is met with derision, accusations of pretentiousness. There is no real solution to it. The future of human cognition fifty years down the line is horrifying if you stop and think about it for even a moment.

Artist fail when, instead of rising above the system through their talent, they lower their talent to the level of that system.

what a fucking thing it would be to reach the end of your life knowing you never once betrayed the person you believed you could become. to have chased that vision through every ugly, uncertain phase of the journey until your entire existence became evidence of what happens when you refuse to let go. now go make it real.

Counter argument: Not only is taste subjective, it's a moving target. As soon as [tasteful thing] becomes easily replicable, it stops being tasteful. Taste is a status game with a strong defensibility mechanism. That's why the term is so fuzzy and ill-defined. Vagueness is the whole point. It's meant to be hard to copy.
I no longer see any compelling reason to believe that taste is some permanent boundary LLMs won’t cross. It’s already happening.

Saying software is dead because anyone can build it is like saying photography is dead now that everyone in the world has a camera in their pocket Not only is it not dead it's the beginning of the Kodak Brownie moment for software, and we will see an absolute explosion of it It will be the first generation for who building software will feel no different than using it. This is crazy! The quality and bar of what we expect from our everyday apps will be raised dramatically, we'll have personal software, we'll have disposable software, and agents will be the foundation for most of it Tech has always been chaotic and evolving, the people who have been able to adapt and move in front of new opportunities have always excelled, this is nothing new, I'm seeing it now and we'll see it 10 years from now Find the opportunities in the chaose and disruption, there are countless of them

This was the Netflix theory. It didn’t work. At one point, they wanted to make a show for every single subscriber. They never got to that extreme, but in the 2010s to early 2020s they were releasing all sorts of nonsense, hundreds and hundreds of shows per year, most of which never got watched They realized their mistake and pulled back. It turns out the average person doesn’t want to watch shows or listen to music uniquely tailored to them. They want to consume what everyone else is consuming. You watch to form an identity, which coheres within a group, not in isolation
In the future, people won't even be listening to a shared music pool. Just have AI generate music you maximally enjoy on the fly. It's the same for movies.

This app is full of ROBOTS who were MADE to MAKE YOU MAD. They are algorithmically contrarian! They do not make sense because they are not real people.

someone once said that we should treat our interests as seasons that can be revisited, but prioritised in the moment of intense fascination, and not as something we must continue to do all the time
No, you cannot walk 10,000 steps daily, get 8 hours of sleep, cook every night, clean every day, take care of a family, make time for your own hobbies, and still be productive at work every day. This is not just propaganda, it is nonsense. Free yourself from it.
