Eight months ago, Kadiri-Lawal Zainab Abike walked onto the stage at the SMEDAN National MSME Conference 2025 Pitch Competition and won 10 million naira. Today, her company, Zannytecture Recycling Company Limited (@zannytecture), has grown from a team of 3 to a team of 5. Production has gone from 5 pieces of furniture a month to 8. Plastic waste processing has doubled from one ton to two tons a month. And more people in her community have been empowered in the process. This is what happens when you take the opportunity seriously. In her own words, she has a message for every small business owner who is sitting on the fence about entering competitions and applying for opportunities like this. Last Thursday, we had an inspiring session with the young minds of Hope Nursery & Primary School, Ikoyi, organized by Restore Earth. The pupils got hands-on with plastic upcycling, creating their very own stationery cases from discarded plastics!
