You live at the center of a global military empire with ~1,000 overseas bases, strangling countries w/ sanctions, coups & war for refusing to submit to US dictates. Thinking Americans shouldn’t care about elections abroad is brain dead imperial chauvinism
None of my students read American comics. They sneer at superhero stuff. They all love manga. Also YA graphic novels outsell all “mainstream” comics. The answer to this is the age demographics of who is actually buying books. My kids read 3x as many books as adults.
If I was trying to get someone into reading comics these would be my recs:
High brow: Fun Home
Middle brow: Sandcastles
Low brow: Punisher Max (the Jason Aaron one not Ennis)

I genuinely think that if this was the culture where I lived I would fucking kill myself.

I am a man-child, emotionally stunted, but I would say this: I never utter “spidey” in earnest.

"Then I followed the money and the lead investor behind Flock also funds an Israeli company that can hack cameras and change the footage."
They tell you Flock cameras are there to fight crime.
So I pulled the actual police logs from my new favorite website (haveibeenflocked . com). 233 million searches that they have been able to get via FOIA requests and here's what "fighting crime" actually looks like:
> 84% had no case number at all
> The most common reason a cop typed in the box? Blank, nothing
> Only about 9% were even tagged as a real crime.
> "Test" and "training" show up as reasons, run on real people's cars
> The FBI and Homeland Security were wired into local camera networks your town never signed off on.
So what is Flock?
FLOCK: 100,000+ plate cameras bolted to poles across America. They read your plate everywhere you drive and never forget.
NOVA: Flock's AI that turns your plate into you. Your name, address, family, everyone you know, in seconds, no warrant.
SIGNALTRACE: a competitor's tool that tracks the Bluetooth off your phone, your AirPods, your watch. Doesn't even need your plate.
Then I followed the money and the lead investor behind Flock also funds an Israeli company that can hack cameras and change the footage. Another lead investor backs a 911 app that flips on your phone's camera and mic. Trace it all the way back and you hit a former Israeli prime minister and Jeffrey Epstein's money.

If they're turning engineers into activists they have been doing unfathomable evil behind the scenes

Bro I'm so sick of pretending this isn't weird.
The internet spent 20 years creating tutorials, open-source projects, blog posts & answers for free.
AI companies turned all of it into products worth billions.
And now the same people who created that knowledge are being told they're replaceable.
We built the library.

Disclosure Day was the worst movie I’ve seen in ages—and I saw megalopolis. Genuinely confused why it was made. I’m not even sure what was supposed to be interesting. The only reason why I was rooting for the protagonists was so that the movie would end sooner.
I thought I was going to skip this because I wasn’t interested in the concept but it was so well done, I loved it.
