I ported ukiyo-e.org over to @CloudflareDev Workers + R2 (1TB of image hosting) + D1 (for full-text search) recently and I'm super happy with it! Using React Router v7 + React 19, about 11 mil dynamic requests/month, served in under 35ms! Total cost ~$25/month.

I met my wife on a forum for people who had been experiencing the same aural hallucination for years (kids choir singing the first verse of “Hey Ya”)

It's very weird that nobody told me just how interesting or fun it was going to be.
Though I think partly it's because the delight is so particular and difficult to express. The hard parts are the only parts relatable to non-parents.

Tempted to move to LA just to be near @imsmetals. I like shopping for metal the same way people pick out produce

You aren't supposed to get your childlike wonder back. That was created for you in part by the adults that loved and cared for you. Once you grow up, it's your turn to give it to someone else.

babies seem to start reciprocating prosocial behavior earlier than i thought they would. i went in kinda assuming that kids are naturally supposed to be selfish/narcissistic until they're like 3+ years old or something, but my 1yo tries to feed me his food, offers me playthings

We need to talk about grandparents who play with a kid for like 30 minutes and then hide for 5 hours to do phone

Sleep training babies to cry until they “give up” sets them up poorly biologically speaking, and sleep training coaches won’t disclose this because sleep training is all about the “mental health” of the mother. But what about the baby?
When a newborn finally gives up after crying as hard as they can, it’s because their instincts tell them their mother is dead and they need to protect themselves/their energy from the thing they think killed her. This is highly traumatic to the nervous system and it sets the foundation for stress disorders, poor attachment, and even disease in the future.
Consider that the short amount of time your constant closeness is demanded by your baby is for a good and necessary biological reason!

anyway you don't have to sign up your 4 year old for 50 Things By Car you can just let them play in the sink and read to them and have them practice drawing on their own and have friends over
and give them siblings
One of the most interesting things about “Founder Mode”, is it explains how founders who have read every (or any) business book lose so consistently to those who have read none

The problem is that you tried to find fulfillment in your two weeks of vacation. Get married, have kids, and be a loving spouse and parent. You will have no shortage of meaning in your life.

Well, 4 out of 5 doctors can't answer a basic question about statistics, even at Harvard.
Medical professionals tend to have an incredible amount of crystallized knowledge, but often aren't actually that intelligent.

The simplest way I can say it is this:
Nuclear can supply all the developed worlds base load energy demand with the minimum of land, materials, and labor.
It's expensive because of bureaucracy. End of discussion.

I’ve always believed the worst teachers of “socialization” skills are kids their own age. Having kids around adults is the best way for kids to learn socialization skills.

11. Satisfaction does not come from money, rewards, status or praise; it comes from impressing yourself. Mistaking the former for the latter is a source of enormous misery.
