I say again… Salary Cap Cultists keep saying a hard cap is the only way small markets can compete. Then the Brewers sweep the Dodgers and the Rays/Guardians keep rolling on bottom-tier payrolls. If development, culture, and actually trying already beat pure spending… why do we need to cap what players can earn? What am I missing? Go!

A salary cap and floor will not fix baseball. In 2026, we should know by now that when uber-rich people want to cap their spending, it isn't because they care about "competitive balance." It's because they want to get richer. A salary floor won't change how Bob Nutting operates. Force him to spend more on players, and he'll cut spending elsewhere. These owners don't care about wins. They care about making more money every year so they can borrow against their increasingly valuable teams, dodge taxes, and cry poor because they're "in debt." What's stopping Nutting and other cheap owners from signing a few mediocre players to inflated one-year deals, hitting the floor, and rinsing and repeating every season? No cheap owner is suddenly going to commit to a long-term deal with a superstar because you made him spend a little more. The problem isn't competitive balance. It never has been. The problem, from the owners' perspective, is figuring out how to separate winning from revenue. Team valuations already increase year after year. Capping player salaries would only accelerate that trend. Owners can sell it as "competitive balance" because a cap creates more randomness, but randomness doesn't reward teams that invest in player development or spend aggressively to win. And that's assuming the cheaper owners don't just treat the floor as their new salary cap. What's stopping the six to eight teams already near the floor from deciding they only need to spend the minimum and cutting another $10-15 million? Given how the uber-rich operate in 2026, you really think at least a few wouldn't try? So what's the actual fix? Tie revenue sharing to winning. Teams with the highest three-year rolling winning percentages receive the most revenue-sharing money. Teams with the lowest receive less. Teams with an extraordinarily low winning percentage over five seasons get hit with a $50 million fine. You have to hit these guys where they actually care: their wallets. You can't rely on draft penalties or anything else that costs them picks or players. To an owner who doesn't care about winning, losing a draft picks can just mean less future superstars they have to pay in arbitration. Owners think in dollars. Fans and players think in wins. You have to tie the two together before even considering a salary cap or floor. Until then, you're wasting your time and making the richest people in the world even richer. Baseball shouldn't be a casino where teams occasionally hit the jackpot through random chance while the house always wins. Build a system that rewards organizations for actually trying to win, not one that makes winning optional while their franchise values keep climbing.

I think the Dodgers could try to move Teoscar Hernández this offseason again to make room for Josue De Paula. De Paula still has some work to do defensively, but his bat definitely impressed. Teo isn’t a bad player by any means, but you have to find a spot for De Paula.

Gracias, Miguel. Todavía tienes mucho que aportar al béisbol.

A lot of people ask me if I only root for the #Dodgers because they hired my son 11 seasons ago... 🤦🏽‍♀️💙 So sometimes you have to pull out receipts! I've been rocking with this team for decades! I sang my first anthem for them in 1987 (first season of 21 Jump Street🤯 ) loooong before I was RJ's mom. I love this team so much. They've brought so much joy & celebration to not just my son, but to their city, fan base, their families and so many people around the world especially Japan. Disappointing that we didn't get the 3Peete 😜 but man I'm grateful to this ball club. 3 championships in 6 years 🏆🏆🏆 More to come! HUGE shout out to @JonSooHooPics 🐐 📸 for capturing all of these iconic images for over 40 years! #gododgers

Shohei Ohtani's MLB batting ranks, last 6 years: Home runs - 3rd Slugging - 2nd Total Bases - 1st Runs - 1st RBI - tied for 3rd Triples - 2nd Walks - 4th Intentional Walks - 1st And while doing that he also started 102 games on the mound and struck out 699 batters while posting a 2.68 ERA. 😮 Totally insane.

HYESEONG KIM: “It was the most disappointing year of my baseball career.” TONS of insight here: “It’s a real shame that we lost. Naturally, any player wants to be out there on the field, but more than just wanting to play myself, I really wanted the team to win. So, I cheered as hard as I could,” he told reporters. “It was a disappointing year… It was the most disappointing year of my baseball career... How should I put it? Looking back, it just didn’t feel like ‘me’ at all.” “The fact that I was only in the Major Leagues for about a month—that’s what hurts the most. I want to play in the Major Leagues for a long time, but I wasn’t able to make that happen.” “Defense is important, but I believe hitting is the key to surviving in the big leagues. While my defense still has a long way to go, I know that to be a regular starter, I have to be able to hit… That is something I need to work on. I need to become a better hitter. To be a regular, I have to play consistently and get on base consistently. In that sense, I need to evolve into a better player." “After talking with the Triple-A hitting coach, I decided to return to my old leg-kick style. It’s a shame I didn’t get a chance to showcase this in the big leagues, but I’ve continued to participate in live batting practice and will keep working on it throughout the off-season to ensure my swing is effective at the major league level.” Source: m.sports.naver.com/wbaseball…
