General Practice is the backbone of Australia's health care system. We need to ensure that medical graduates are attracted to a career in general practice. @yourAMSA

The @yourAMSA President Address at #AMANatCon always a highlight. Very glad it was brought back into the agenda this year because @jasminemdavis96 had a powerful call for diversity and equity in medicine, from entry into training to ongoing support for all, quote below: – at Sydney, New South Wales

Increasing #medicalstudent numbers will NOT solve #workforce issues. It is simplistic to suggest that this will help. It has been trialled and it has failed to provide the type of doctors we need in the location we need them. (A thread) @yourAMSA @ama_media

This week @WHO reported 136 attacks on healthcare in #Ukraine. Together with @ACMHN @RANZCP @acemonline @AcademyCAH @AHPA_AU @yourAMSA we condemn attacks on health workers and facilities in Ukraine - and wherever they occur. Full statement bit.ly/381dNmw #NotATarget

Increasing #medicalschool numbers without #workforcemodelling, #data or a plan to provide #internships and #specialtytraining options is #shortsighted and extremely #irresponsible. Our training pipeline is full of bottlenecks and this #Budget is only making things worse. #CSPs

Grateful to be able to attend @QandA tonight to hear an important discussion about #anxiety and our #mentalhealthsystem - it’s clear more needs to be done in funding a functioning and sustainable system that serves those who need it most. 1/4

A timely reminder from @NeelaJan that so-called 'elective' surgery is essential surgery. Ongoing cancellations of elective surgeries place overwhelming burdens on patients, staff, and the entire health system.
Elective surgery can’t be the redundancy in our public health system - the thing we switch off when we (repeatedly) run out of time/beds/money/staff. It needs to be prioritised as a core part of our health system. The system needs redundancy built in. theage.com.au/national/victo…
