I’m really looking forward to this one!
On October 27–28, I’ll be presenting at the Standards-Based Grading Implementation Conference in the Chicago area and I get to dig into some of my favorite parts of this work:
→ What’s working in SBG — and what’s still getting in the way
→ Designing standards-aligned assessments that actually measure what matters
→ Teaching for learning and making better decisions about proficiency
But what I’m most excited about is that this conference isn’t just about sitting and listening.
We’ve intentionally built in time throughout the two days for conversation, collaboration and action planning so individuals and teams can connect the learning to the work happening in their own schools.
If your school is working through SBG, whether you’re getting started, refining what you already have or trying to create more consistency, I’d love to have you join us in Woodridge, IL @1stEdResources

When teachers increase the weight of summative #assessments in the gradebook, two additional practices/policies are also crucial:
1⃣high-quality summative assessment creation & intentional use💯
2⃣clear & comprehensive reassessment policy♻️

Traditional percentage scales only offer an "illusion of precision."
The four-point scale uses just 5 performance levels, which allows teachers to:
👉 focus on quality over quantity
👉use high accuracy & precision
👉increase clarity of grades
👉"handle" outlier scores
