Respectfully, point 1 is not correct. Read paragraph 3 of UN Resolution 390 A(V). Federal jurisdiction covered defence, foreign affairs, currency, foreign and interstate commerce, and "external and interstate communications, including ports."
Ports were federal, not Eritrean only. Even your fellow Eritrean commenter here agrees with that.
You can argue that the federation was broken in 1962. That is a fair debate. But please don't rewrite the text.
Replying to @yonast98
1. False. UN put Eritrean ports strictly UNDER Eritrean Jurisdiction, NOT ethiopia 2. Ethiopia abrogated the UN federation by undermining it, then, finally, annexing Eritrea, which kicked off liberation struggle. So, even if one buys your claim, 🇪🇹 cancelled it by annexing 🇪🇷

Eritrea’s Shabia regime is running out of options. The way forward is clear: negotiate in good faith, relinquish authoritarian rule, & open the way for a democratic transition.

Isaias Afwerki is less a “strategic partner” and more a crow-messenger for the whole region.
He entered Haile Selassie University as a freshman, then was sent out to destroy the ELF/Jebha as part of the old Israel–U.S.–Ethiopia axis. Like the crow that flipped on Noah after leaving the ark, he turned on Haile Selassie, created his own version of ELF/Jebha, and rode with Nasser and then Anwar Sadat to help kick U.S. troops out of Kagnew Station in Asmara.
Ever since, he has basically been running errands for Egypt and Iran while Washington keeps pretending it can “reset” sanctions on a warlord who still calls the United States an empire in decline and flirts with “New World Order” dreams.
Don’t trust this man—or the pharaohs he dances with. He has spent decades flipping sides, kicking the U.S. out of Kagnew, and serving Egypt and Tehran while calling America an empire in decline. Trusting Isaias Afwerki for a “reset” isn’t strategy—it’s self-deception draped in the language of realpolitik.

Two strikes in one night. A car burned outside his room. And this young man's answer was one word "peace".
Al Jazeera went to Adigrat on Oct 17. Look at what is still lying in the fields: burnt trucks, mortar shells, a pile of unexploded ammunition.
Efrem Abraha, a young resident: "My hope for the future is peace. Especially for us young people, we want to live in peace."
Ask why the strikes came to Adigrat at all. Al Jazeera's own caption answers it: the drones hit "Eritrean troops who had entered the city." 40 km inside Ethiopia.
Asmara still says its army never crossed. This week it asked the African Union to protect its rights as a member state. Fair enough. But AU membership comes with duties too. Article 4 of the AU Constitutive Act: respect the borders, and no interference in another member's internal affairs.
Those shells in the grass will stay dangerous for years. Every one must be cleared before children walk in those fields again.
Young people on both sides of this border deserve better than what the 1998 generation got.
Respect the border. Keep your army at home. And if there is a dispute, including the sea, bring it to a table. Not to Adigrat.

Renewed fighting in Ethiopia’s northern Tigray region has raised fears of a wider regional conflict.
In Adigrat, a city close to the Eritrean border, residents recall recent drone strikes by Ethiopian forces against Eritrean troops.

Nobody in #Ethiopia is asking #Eritrea to stop being a country. So why treat a talk about the sea like a declaration of war?
The claim here is that Ethiopia "never owned" a port, except in a "bogus" federation. Let's check the record.
1. The 1952 federation was not bogus. It came from UN General Assembly Resolution 390 A (V), December 1950. That same resolution put ports under the federal government. You can argue about what happened in 1962. You cannot call a UN decision fake.
2. Before the 1998 war, Assab handled more than 75% of Ethiopia's trade. Today around 95% goes through Djibouti. This is not ancient history. Millions of Ethiopians alive today remember Assab as our port.
3. Eritrea's independence is a fact. Ethiopia recognized it in 1993. Respecting a border and asking for a fair deal on the sea are two different things.
4. A deal is possible. AP reported today that Turkish mediation got Ethiopia and Somalia to agree on commercial sea access under Somali sovereignty. If it can work with Mogadishu, why not with Asmara?
More than 135 million people locked behind one neighbour's port. Asking to talk about that is not aggression. Refusing to talk forever is the real danger.
The table, not the trench. #EthiopiaPrevails
Potemkin Party's toxic/stale chorus is grotesquely on display again.
In the link below, the official mouthpiece of the regime (Fana Broadcasting Corporation -Arabic) tries to package, in its news item today, the PP's declared war of aggression in fallacious "historical and strategic terms".
1. In the first place, Ethiopia cannot "reclaim ports and maritime route" that it never owned except during its illicit presence in the bogus "Federation" and annexation periods. Annexation and forceful occupation do not confer historical/legal title to the occupying entity. International law 101.
2. The Eritrean people had paid precious sacrifices when their right to decolonization was denied in the 1940s to satisfy overriding geopolitical interests of major powers. As a result, they had to undergo through Africa's longest liberation struggle to achieve their inalienable national rights and human dignity which should not have been denied in the first place.
3. In the event, to deny and denigrate Eritrea's independence constitutes yet another transgression and political blasphemy of the highest order.

Al Jazeera says it in two lines: "Asmara has denied the allegations. However, witnesses and monitoring groups report seeing Eritrean soldiers on the ground in the Tigray region."
A denial is not evidence. Witnesses, monitors and now Al Jazeera's own report all point the same way.
What the report shows:
1. ACLED, an independent conflict monitor, says Eritrean soldiers crossed back over the border through Zalambessa as Ethiopian troops advanced. You cannot withdraw from a place you never entered.
2. A Tigray Peace Force spokesperson says Eritrean troops told TPLF fighters: "Take courage, we are behind you." That is his claim, and independent investigators should test it.
3. The US Secretary of State called on all sides to return to the 2018 Ethiopia–Eritrea peace framework. Ethiopia signed that peace in Jeddah, and it ended a 20-year state of war. Ethiopia's prime minister won the Nobel Peace Prize for it. Ethiopia has not walked away from it.
Peace between neighbours has one basic rule: you don't arm or encourage rebels inside the other's land. Break that rule, and no framework can survive.
The real price is paid by ordinary people. In the same report, a father sits in a hospital and says: "I've already buried two of my children and brought my third child here for medical treatment." No political goal is worth that.
Al Jazeera warns the region is "at a tipping point." Then the way forward is clear:
• No foreign hands in Ethiopia's internal conflict.
• Independent monitors on both sides of the border.
• Back to the 2018 framework, with the AU at the table.
Ethiopia chose peace in 2018, and it is still ready for peace. But peace needs two partners and the truth.

After three weeks of rumours, fake clips and "Ethiopia will fall" predictions, foreign military officers finally saw the evidence with their own eyes.
And what they said after Bishoftu should silence a lot of people. 🧵👇
Military attachés from the UK, Australia, Kenya, Tanzania, Bangladesh, Gabon and South Sudan were briefed by ENDF leadership at Bishoftu Air Force Base and shown weapons seized in the operations. Officers from the US, Russia, Italy, Germany and China were there too.
Here is what they said on camera:
🇬🇧 UK: "There's been a lot of speculation over the last three weeks… the briefing clarified the lead-up to the conflict and the conduct of the conflict." He said they respect the ENDF's right to protect its country from any threat, and urged all sides to respect the sovereign territory of their neighbours.
🇦🇺 Australia: she said she respects the ENDF's efforts to protect Ethiopia's sovereignty, and that all countries in the region must respect each other's borders.
🇧🇩 Bangladesh: "Ethiopia has the legitimate right to protect their sovereignty from any kind of foreign aggression." He said the ENDF is targeting legitimate military targets and trying to protect civilian lives.
🇰🇪 Kenya: "From the briefing it is very clear that ENDF undertook its mandate within applicable laws."
🇹🇿 Tanzania: after the briefing, he said, "I'm 100% sure that we are safe here in Addis Ababa and in Ethiopia as a whole."
🇬🇦 Gabon: most information comes from social media, "which can be fake." Official briefings are the right way.
🇸🇸 South Sudan: "If there is peace in Ethiopia, peace will come in South Sudan also." He asked the international community to stand behind Ethiopia for peace.
Two messages came through again and again:
1. Ethiopia has the right to defend its sovereignty.
2. Every neighbour must respect Ethiopia's borders, and every side must de-escalate.
That's exactly Ethiopia's position. Defend the country, protect civilians, and seek peace.
To everyone who spent three weeks spreading fake news: the people whose job is to know the facts have now seen them.

The US Secretary of State just said something Asmara won't like.
Last night Marco Rubio was asked about Ethiopia and Eritrea. Read his words slowly:
1. Ethiopia was attacked from inside, including drone attacks on its own capital. "No one is supportive of terrorism."
2. Troops are now on both sides of the border. That is dangerous.
3. Washington has been talking to Asmara "more than usual," because you can't make peace unless you talk to both sides.
So here is the only question that matters now who is ready to sit down?
Ethiopia's stated position is clear. Sea access through talks, not through force. A country of more than 120 million people asking for a fair deal on the Red Sea is not a crime. It is a conversation this region must have one day.
This week Eritrea's Foreign Minister told diplomats that Ethiopia wants Assab "by force." If that fear is real, the answer is easy. Accept mediation. Put it on paper. Let the US, the AU, anyone hold the pen.
Rubio is right. The last thing the world needs is another war. Ethiopians don't want one either. We have buried too many young people already.
The door to talks is open. Walk through it.

Read the words in your own posts: "reportedly", "local sources", "preliminary assessments", "highly likely".
That is not evidence. That is a guess.
In two days you have accused Ethiopia of launching drones into Sudan, Ethiopian Airlines of flying RSF fighters, and Ethiopian troops of handing towns to Al-Shabaab. Not one photo, not one document, not one named source.
Ethiopian Airlines carries ordinary passengers from every country in Africa. Accusing it without proof puts civilians at risk.
If you have evidence, publish it. If not, these are opinions, not news.

The so-called think tank Horn Review, a front platform linked to the Ethiopian government, has blocked me. They had been warning about the militarization of eastern Sudan in favor of a regional alliance made up of Egypt, Eritrea, and the Sudanese army. The irony is that very moment, kamikaze and long-range drones launched from Ethiopia were striking civilian facilities in Sudan yesterday and today.

Eritrea told the world its soldiers never entered Tigray. Today the people of Adigrat answered.
AFP went to Adigrat, 40 km from the border, and talked to the people who live there.
"When I saw Eritrean soldiers entering our area two weeks ago, I was shocked and angry. They have now left, and I hope they never return." (Haymanot, 33)
"Seeing the Eritrean army here is like seeing the devil." (Elias, 36)
These are not Ethiopian officials. They are not activists in Addis. They are ordinary people in Tigray who saw the trucks with their own eyes.
AFP also reports:
- burnt-out trucks still lie in the roads of Adigrat
- a foreign security source says Eritrea sent thousands of troops into northern Tigray
- some Eritrean soldiers are still in Zalambessa, on the Ethiopian side of the border
So my question is simple. If there was no incursion, who are the soldiers in Zalambessa?
On Oct 14 the US said every country in the Horn must avoid cross-border incursions. That rule protects Eritrea. It protects Ethiopia too.
Meanwhile in Mekelle, shops and markets are opening again. People want normal life, not another war.
Tigray does not need foreign soldiers. It needs police back on the streets, schools open, and food and aid moving.
My problem is not with the Eritrean people. It is with a government in Asmara that sends its army into our towns and then calls it a lie.
Withdraw from Zalambessa. Talk. Let our people rebuild.
