In Bangka Belitung, fires have destroyed nearly 300 homes, forcing around 1,000 residents to flee. Some fires are linked to deliberate land-clearing practices, including slash-and-burn methods used to clear forests and peatlands for agriculture. Authorities are investigating potential wrongdoing as the blazes continue to devastate communities and wildlife.
