Tim is intentionally ignoring the fact that GenAi models are built off the largest theft of labor/creative works in history. This golden era he claims is not only slop, it’s built off theft.
The games we've long wanted, which didn't exist because they'd cost several times more to make than they'd earn back, will soon become possible. As will the games developers wanted to build, but couldn't with the resources available. It'll be a new golden age of gaming.

Given that LLMs are wrong or, at the very best, beige average when it comes to subjects I know about, the likelihood is that they're either wrong or beige average about subjects I don't know anything about. You can't build a great business on beige average work.
The big problem these days using LLM's to do more serious work is no longer hallucinations, it's that they randomly forget context. And you have no idea until the answer is obviously wrong.

It's only strange if you exclude the possibility that the AI industry is 99% hype and 1% real-world benefit. Allow for that possibility, and it makes perfect sense.
Am I the only one who finds it strange that ChatGPT is almost 4 years old and AI spending is propping up US growth, yet the productivity boom still hasn't shown up anywhere?

It's become painfully clear that structuring our whole society around maximizing profit instead of the wellbeing of people and planet was a really terrible idea.

I don’t understand why people are happy about artists losing their jobs because of AI, literally everything you enjoy is because of an artist whether you like it or not

In reality, the principle behind that “flying” drone (because it’s not a car) was first conceived by a Greek from southern Italy (which is in Europe) named Archytas around 2,500 years ago. It was then developed over centuries in China, centuries before the United States even existed; scientifically explained by an Englishman (Newton) in 1687; and first applied industrially in Germany in WW2. And these kinds of scientific and technological developments made their way to the United States when, after that war, the decision was made to bring a large number of leading European scientists and engineers to America (some of them war criminals, incidentally) and put vast amounts of public money (that same money some people claim is so bad) at their disposal so they could carry on doing what they had already been doing in Europe, but without scruples. Many European minds have been thinking about this for a very long time. That’s why Europeans know it has no particular practical use in a “car”, beyond showing off a very expensive toy.
The european mind cannot comprehend this

Don't let billionaires convince you slop is the future. They're used to managing & directing, not making things themselves. Of course they can't see the difference. They don't understand your love for the craft. Keep making personal, beautiful games. You've got my support 💖

Mind you, coding is art. Learning how to manipulate a system to do what you need to, that's ART. It's also knowledge being lost
Do NOT let "vibe coding" become normalized in your mind. As an artist/writer who's also done coding in the past, generating code with AI is exactly the same as generating anything else with it. Everything you love about your favorite games and websites was coded by real people.

I've never understood those who make statements like "Artists don't deserve to make a living off art, it's a hobby not a career." It's an intellectually dishonest or jealous opinion considering they're surrounded by art by career artists everyday & we all have costs of living.

I don’t want Muse. I don’t want Gemini. I don’t want Claude. And to hell with ChatGPT. I want my phone to be a phone, my computer to be a computer, social media to connect me with actual friends, and generative AI to go straight back to hell where it came from. If that makes me a “get off my lawn” guy… then get off my lawn.

We are not “broke” and “burnt out” we’re being robbed and exploited by the parasite class and being told it’s an individual failing and we just need to work harder.

Guillermo del Toro: “Be very angry about how the world is being fucked, how your craft is being pulled away from you, how people are trying to move you away from the arts and tell you they’re not important. Be angry that things are being controlled by socially barely functional people that have a lot of money. Be angry about something. Be enraged about something” (Video: anakinspadawan / TikTok)
