Yann’s comment on the Roadster reminded me of another Stanford professor I interacted with years ago. Highly positioned and theoretically brilliant, they can’t turn numbers into coordinated atoms. Their manufacturing knowledge came from The Economist. Factory visits involved VIP treatment with executives as workers buzzed around. They don’t grasp how atoms move in production or the ingenuity of turning equations into reality through choreographed coordination. The most impressive manufacturing engineers I’ve worked with weren’t Ivy League graduates, yet they create things that catch your heart. They turn theoretical math into reality—the real magicians. A month at Tesla taught me more than the most prestigious school could.

People see the riots in Paris but they don’t see the entrepreneurs quietly leaving. When I started my company in Paris in 2016, I shared a startup incubator floor with other founders. Six out of ten now live in the Bay Area. Not a week goes by without a message from another French entrepreneur moving here. We used to do welcome dinner with my wife but now we need to organize welcome party. Dozens more on LinkedIn/email asking how to leave. I can’t even reply to everyone anymore. It’s painful to watch. The riots make headlines but the people leaving just pack their bags and go create jobs elsewhere.

As much as I respect Chinese-made AI models and hardware, I'm equally puzzled by how rough most of the software still is. Whether it's Wechat or Alipay or HarmonyOS. You'd think getting unique aesthetics, perfect fidelity, and great flows would be "easy", but clearly it is not.
