Colosseum season again, which reminded me of a pitch question I’ve been thinking about recently:
Should a good pitch deck be fully self explanatory?
I recently had a discussion with a designer who strongly believed the answer was yes.
Fair point.
But the more I thought about it, the less convinced I was that this should be a universal rule.
I’ve made a lot of pitch decks over the years, and during last Colosseum I also got to see a lot of strong startup pitches.
Looking back, I think the answer depends heavily on how the pitch is actually consumed.
1/ Announcing Crypto World’s Fair, our next startup competition open to all builders across blockchain ecosystems! 🎡
Registration for the online hackathon is open, and runs Sept 14 to Oct 12.
Millions in prizes & VC funding will be awarded to winners: colosseum.com/worldsfair
Live pitching is different, though.
Think investor meetings, demo days, side events, or something like Kuching Demo House, where my teammate @Highentropy001 recently pitched.
Here, the audience consumes the speaker and the slides together.
The deck should do less explaining and more supporting.
Show what is hard to communicate verbally.
Simplify a system into a diagram.
Visualise data.
Reinforce the one thing you want people to remember.
If every slide is designed to explain everything by itself, a live pitch can easily turn into someone speaking over a document.
So maybe the better question is not:
“Is this deck self explanatory?”
but:
“What job does this deck need to do in this specific pitch format?”
A standalone deck should carry context.
A live pitch deck should carry attention.
Different format, different job.
ps. I used to overthink sharing thoughts like this publicly because there is always someone who has pitched more, raised more, or knows the topic better.
But an incomplete perspective can still be worth sharing.
Learn in public. Think in public. Discuss in public.
Founders and builders, curious how you think about this.
time for an intro too <3
gmgm, Catherine here
> did the study + work thing in 🇸🇬, now based in Melbourne 🇦🇺
> 5 yrs in crypto — survived the noise, kept the curiosity
> somehow went journalism → marketing → product design → building DeFi
> currently exploring ideas & building on @solana
> mostly interested in product, markets, narratives, and figuring out what’s actually worth building
> tennis is basically how I touch grass 🎾
pic’s from last year’s AO
keen to meet more builders, founders & community people across SG + AU — especially the Solana crowd
if you’re building something interesting, say hi.
bonus points if you also play tennis 🎾
Melbourne frens — always down for a hit, and probably see you at the next AO
time for introduction<3
gmgm this is Martina
> based in 🇸🇬
> 7 years in crypto, barely survived several cycles and several hacks (paranoid now, don't @ me with "can you review my project")🫰
> english / mandarin / cantonese + a bit of jp & melayu (more like BYElingual)
> spent 2 years with a high-power laser that almost took my eyes, now building at @quantumlah & @KurtosisLabs (with my bro @leptokurtic_kai
> sometimes grabbing free food, free drinks, free aircon & the best office in town @superteamsg
> community volunteer in GRC so SINGAPOREANS don't be shocked if I show up at your door on a house visit
Would love to connect with more BUILDERS in the town <3
The fact is, UX friendliness is still underrated in finance products. I’d be a billionaire if I got a penny every time I saw a post complaining about IBKR's interface, or heard people say that even though IBKR has lower transaction and platform fees, they’d rather stick with Moomoo or Robinhood because they are actually designed for "humankind."
The hardest part of product isn't the roadmap. It's finding the frame that makes people see what you see.
We focus on the point that crypto never solved options, and that AI agents + zk privacy + Solana is how you finally do it.
Proud of what Anneal team shipped.🔥
Options are the trillion-dollar instrument crypto never figured out. We finally cracked it.
Our @colosseum submission from @Anneallab , the private OTC options on @solana , negotiated by AI agents. Full pitch below 👇👇👇👇👇
We are in active conversation with @orogoldapp to be their options layer, opening the door to institutional RWA, and in communication with @googlecloud to back the build with us.
None of this would exist without @29988122 , @xcatherinechen , @zyz_here , @haorui117 , @drtingtinghow shipping alongside me. Anneal is still a young team, still hungry.
And we got here because @superteam curates the best builders on Solana. @SuperteamSG specifically bet on us early with resources and conviction most teams at our stage never see.
Agents negotiate. Privacy protects. Humans approve. Solana settles.
Bullish on Anneal becoming the DeFAI primitive on @solana.
This is what week 4 looks like when the team refuses to slow down. 🔥
Super proud of what we've been shipping!
The vision is coming together. Anneal is the options layer agents actually need. Stay tuned, landing page dropping soon 👀
Last week of Colosseum, Anneal is moving FAST:
- explored ORO yield flows with @orogoldapp
- spoke with @Google about onchain dataset collaboration
- integrating x402 proxy support, including pay.sh
ANNEAL IS BULLISH!🔥🔥
One more week to go till our final submission at Frontier Colosseum Hackthon.
Our landing page and more product details are coming sooooon!
Week 4 building Anneal at @colosseum Frontier:

It's week 3🔥!
Come check Anneal out at Frontier @colosseum
Catherine Chen retweeted
Anneal: Private RFQ for non-fungible options on Solana.
One concentrated position. The competing agents. Bounded rounds. One cleared contract.
Week 1-2 build for @colosseum Frontier.
