I honestly don't think the president is dead. I think he's most likely taking the week off because he injured himself and people are reading too far into it. The man's hands were purple last time we saw him. :/
The internet thought Ryan Reynolds and Chris Pratt were horrible choices for Pikachu and Mario. I think the benefit of the doubt is warranted on their casting choices this third go around. They've kind of proven the internet doesn't have the first clue when it comes to casting.
