Stefan Thomas, former Ripple CTO and founder of Coil, has worked on Interledger, an open protocol for sending payments across different ledgers and currencies, since 2014. For most of that time, there was no lasting network to join.
Stefan at @RippleSwell presents Dassie, which is a permanent, peer-to-peer Interledger network where anyone can run a node. Dassie adds two layers on top of XRPL: settlement hubs, where regional validators run a fast ledger backed by a multi-signature XRPL account so members can pay each other quickly without trusting each other; and the Dassie network itself, where nodes peer automatically and route payments across currencies and ledgers, starting with XRP and RLUSD. Why now? AI makes it possible to build and rigorously test software faster than ever, and it's driving demand for exactly the kind of fast, efficient payments Interledger was built for. Come see Dassie running live.

Revolut founder Nik Storonsky says one of his investors tried forcing him to fire his best person:
โHe was forcing me to fire my best person, because he was too hardcore.โ
โOf course I didnโt fire him. I said no.โ
โPretty early on I realized that quite a few VCs, they are not very operational, and they can be actually dangerous for the company if they have enough power. So every single investment round, we just remove VCs.โ
โNow I don't have any VCs on the board. I think that's the best. You always need to have operators rather than VCs on the board, people who actually build business and who know how to do things.โ
Nik Storonsky is one of the most hardcore and competitive founders Iโve ever talked to. Heโs the founder of Revolut, a $115 billion company, and wants to be the number one bank in 100 countries.
When someone asked Nik if he was coming for Jamie Dimon's lunch, he said โIโm coming for his dinner.โ
โWe want to dominate, otherwise whatโs the point?โ
He removed every VC from his board, and when one investor pushed him too far, he started his own fund to compete with them.
Nik has a lot of ideas on talent, product design, marketing, constraints, and what makes founder-led companies special.
This is a fascinating conversation about competition, speed, and building a machine-like company.

Pretty much.
As of the past few weeks, debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesnโt have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers.
SpaceX closed $40B of debt for GPUs, but weโre investment grade and have Starlink & launch revenue.
That means the 200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many.
DS ๐ช๐งฌ๐ง๐ฆ๐๐ฆ๐งช retweeted
As someone with a portfolio of energized land assets here is what I am seeing:
1. Neoclouds are disorganized and poorly capitalized. Some are definitely better than others however.
2. Hyperscalers are intractable, bureaucratic organizations that take 3 months to do an NDA and want 18mo escrow periods. We built our portfolio by competing against these terms because of our speed and simplicity. The more future assets orgs like ours win, the bigger the problem for the hyperscalers downstream (see 3).
3. There are delays in the existing pipeline that will catch people off guard in 2027. Hyperacalers will (obviously) react by focusing on their own internal compute needs over any third party. If the third party is a model company, they will tell them to go through their model router where they will also take a non-trivial vig. Them telling Ant they have no compute for them (rumored in Antโs S-1) if true is a huge tell that this is already happening.
All of this is to say that it does look like there will be a lot of partially stranded compute and compute sitting in inventory in 2027 than is currently forecasted. This is bought and paid for but effectively underearning (below total cost of capital) or collecting dust. We see this as true for everyone - model companies, hyperscalers, neoclouds except ONE (you can guess which one).
This dislocation will benefit two kinds of orgs: the non-bureaucratic big scalers who can build industrial scale quickly and the nimble, well capitalized players feeding them.
2027 will be a turbulent year because it will clear out a bunch of wrong/bad bets. It will also be a consolidation year for a few.

I think weโre going to see a lot of stranded compute in partially complete data centers

Every efficient clearing system in finance has been built on top of deep and reliable settlement infrastructure, and that is precisely the role the @XRPLF has played for more than a decade, settling value with deterministic finality and without interruption.
For clearing to unlock capital efficiency at scale, XRPL first needs a broader base of participants, deeper liquidity and a consistently higher volume of activity settling on it every day, and growing that activity is our core objective.
Transaction activity is the most reliable indicator of a networkโs health, since it reflects real usage by traders, applications and institutions rather than short term attention.
XRPL is technically prepared for that growth, with finality in a few seconds through its consensus protocol, fees measured in fractions of a cent and market infrastructure embedded at the protocol level through trust lines, a native onchain order book and an AMM that share the same liquidity layer.
What the network needs now is more flow, and we are preparing to channel that flow into its native markets.
Our first focus is on the two assets that anchor activity on XRPL, @XRP as the native asset required for transaction fees and a core asset for liquidity across trading pairs, and RLUSD as a regulated dollar issued natively on the same rails, giving the network a stable unit of account for trading, payments and settlement.
Deeper liquidity on these pairs reduces execution costs, tightens spreads and lowers slippage, making XRPL a more efficient venue for traders and for applications that depend on reliable onchain price discovery.
This creates a compounding effect in which more liquidity attracts more participants, more participants generate more transactions, and a higher transaction base creates the conditions for new applications to launch and scale on the network.
Each of those transactions also burns a small amount of XRP in fees, which permanently removes it from supply and ties network activity directly to the native asset.
As this activity grows, clearing running natively within XRPL can net obligations across counterparties on a continuous basis, reducing the capital that needs to move for each settlement and adding a layer of capital efficiency on top of infrastructure that has already proven its reliability at scale.
We intend to drive this growth alongside the teams already shipping on XRPL, and we will share more details shortly.
If you are building on the network, my DMs are open, as are those of everyone on our team, and we would like to hear what you are working on.
