🚨🚨WARNING: LONG DOOMER POST. 🚨🚨 The official exchange rate in Argentina is 350 ARS to 1 Dollar. I have a friend in Buenos Aries and he said that's the official rate, the real rate is more like 1200 to 1. He can't buy anything for the "official rate" and he has to use the local currency to buy things officially - thus massive black market activity in the country. This is going to be reality everywhere with exception of nations under major currencies who will be battered but eventually fixed or reset to something else. Now there's no way we'll see real (reported) hyperinflation in the U.S. We'd have massive, destabilizing unrest with reported inflation above 20% let alone 50%+. But what we will have is shortages and we will have the government blaming "profiteers" for just selling goods and service at the real rates of inflation. Things are going to get nuts. It won't happen overnight but bank failures, corrupt central bank interventions, sudden price controls, accelerated institution of central bank digital currencies, widespread riots, wars, they're all going to become far more common. You'll be told after each mini-crisis that the worst is past. Things will be better for a bit and then next crisis wave will come - you'll get hit with the next social crisis distraction but at some point fighting over Roe v. Wade or gun control just doesn't matter when you can't pay your bills and your credit card. And the waves will come. The waves will become more frequent and the narrative will shift to blaming you for thinking your groceries are massively higher (they are) or not being grateful that the value of your home is up when people can no longer afford a house or move to a new one with higher interest rates on your new mortgage. No, the blame won't be leveled at trickle down QE from the Fed that's persisted for the better part of two decades, nor the rampant rush to fund every war around the globe that could've been used to build roads and bridges or infrastructure. Too many D.C. grifters, too many defense lobbyists, too little time. Governments in "free societies" are going to attempt to normalize draconian, authoritarian and oppressive "emergency" powers at such a pace that everyone (not just "doomers" like me) will expect it. It's in the open now. Everyone denies it is coming while expecting it at the same time. It's a strange era, but not a strange of wonder of beauty, it's just the bill coming due.
