Thoughts on #NFFC today. Forest continue to be absolutely magnificent in finding ways to lose games that should be finishing 0-0. Today it's an individual error followed by an unfortunate deflection that was the undoing to another solid defensive performances. I wasn't a huge fan of moving McAtee higher up the pitch during the game - he was having a real solid game there and this decision to move up higher and bring on Sangare in that position is probably the only thing I can really criticise Glasner for today. For me Sangare has looked initially poor in the early stages of his last two substitute appearances, and that unfortunately continued today. By hesitating to move to the loose ball on the edge of the box, he makes a poor error that he probably doesn't make if he's been on the pitch longer - and probably isn't made if McAtee is still there. It's also a fairly poor attempt to block the shot too if I'm being super critical, and it's a shame this poor 10 seconds has essentially cost Forest a valuable point. On the whole, Forest defended really well and didn't give up a half-decent chance until the 70th minute - a great effort against a talented Arsenal attack. Things opened up a little after the goal when Forest had to chase and leave more space in behind, but that was always going to happen. The back 3 I thought were very solid in dealing with Havertz, with Murillo in particular impressing in all phases. He almost grabbed what would've been a deserved equaliser with a brilliant individual effort, but as is the case for Forest recently it just wasn't to be. The centre backs were far less adventurous out of possession than we've seen recently, regularly letting Arsenal's attackers drop deep to receive possession and not following. This is a change from what we've seen recently, evidence that Glasner's instructions and tweaks are working - in this case to give Forest's back line a far more solid foundation against a strong attack. Delap I thought had a really strong game, particularly in establishing his position early against Gabriel & Konsa on long balls - his strong carrying of the ball also continues to help Forest get up the pitch. Externally, it looks like there's going to be a ton of pressure on Forest going into Friday's game at Ipswich. I hope internally that isn't the case - there's clear signs that Forest are actually performing pretty well, and being coached very well, but just aren't getting the points on the board they probably deserve. Things do need to turn around quickly though and points do need to get put on the board sooner rather than later, otherwise there's no doubt that pressure will grow inside the club.

Chris Wood action map for #NFFC v Arsenal. For the second consecutive game now Wood has come off the bench and missed a great opportunity. Statistically, his decision to take a tough today made his chance a 'lower quality' one than it probably was. It's a tough one for me - Wood has always felt like a player who needs a run in the team to find his feet, but with Delap so key to getting Forest into the final third, it's hard to see where those minutes are going to come from when he isn't taking advantage of the small opportunities he's getting.

Callum Hudson-Odoi action map for #NFFC v Arsenal. A decent impact off the bench where his driving runs caused some issues for Arsenal's defence in the closing stages. Perhaps he released the pass for Wood a little too early and with slightly less pace on it than he would've liked, but can't really fault his impact today.

Ibrahim Sangare action map for #NFFC v Arsenal. Can't sugar coat it, it was a really poor cameo off the bench from Sangare. One of his first actions was to press Merino high and get beaten far too easily on the inside. Then, right before Arsenal's goal, he hesitates on a loose ball on the edge of the box and allows Rice to pick up possession far too easily. I have sympathy with him, I think outside of a centre back, being asked to come into central midfield "cold" in a game state like this is probably one of the toughest assignments you can ask for. I do think the signs have been there though, in each of his last 3 substitute appearances now Sangare has made very poor actions almost as soon as he entered the field, before settling into the game. Unfortunately, today's error was the most costly one of them all.

Arnaud Kalimuendo action map for #NFFC v Arsenal. A long appearance by his standards, but like Ndoye it was never going to be a game where he'd get lots of moments on the ball. He attempted one cross that didn't reach his target.

Liam Delap action map for #NFFC v Arsenal. I thought Delap today was very good - an underrated job in trying to win physical battles with Arsenal's centre backs. His ability today to establish his ground early so that he could make first contact on long balls with his feet, rather than his head, was very impressive. I just don't think Forest were able to get bodies close to him often enough. Delap continues to be a force carrying the ball forward, but couldn't get his final contact on shots right today.

Dan Ndoye action map for #NFFC v Arsenal This was always going to be a game where Ndoye needed to make the most of the few actions he was going to get. Unfortunately he just couldn't do that today. It looked like he might get through on goal on the hour mark, and he took a great first touch to try and burst past Konsa. The Englishman defended him really well though and Ndoye just couldn't get his body between him and the ball to give the Arsenal man a decision to make.

Nico Dominguez action map for #NFFC v Arsenal. His first start and first meaningful minutes in the Premier League this season. Dominguez was so key to how well Forest defended during his 74 minutes on the field. His work rate was tremendous out of possession (as it almost always is), and he covered ground at a higher rate than any other Forest player today. The only shame was that he had to come off due to his lack of match fitness.

Neco Williams action map for #NFFC v Arsenal He had two bad moments today, the first when being beaten by Saka and taking an early yellow card, and the second when Arsenal finally managed to play through Forest on their right and create a good chance for Declan Rice. Otherwise, Neco was pretty solid against a tough operator today in Saka.

Xaver Schlager action map for #NFFC v Arsenal. A busy game for him where he was regularly forced to cover midfield runs into the left-back area. Schlager defended well and had some good moments on the ball, but was rarely involved centrally in a game where Forest had very little possession.

James McAtee action map for #NFFC v Arsenal. Thought this would be a really tough game for him against a physical Arsenal side, but McAtee showed up really well today and the game really changed when Glasner moved him higher up the field after his substitions. McAtee was able to use his intelligence to read the game and intercept Arsenal attacks, whilst retaining composure to help Forest play out at times.

Daniel Muñoz action map for #NFFC v Arsenal. A very hard-working performance from the Colombian, covering the 2nd most ground for Forest and sprinting more often & further than any player on the pitch. The disappointing thing was Forest's inability to get him involved in an attacking sense, but defensively Muñoz had a decent game with some good actions in his own box.

Matz Sels action map for #NFFC v Arsenal. A 'goals prevented' stat of -0.84 is harsh today considering he has no chance with the deflected effort that initially looked to be going pretty much straight at him. It was the only shot that hit the target. I do think distribution continues to be an issue though - perhaps it was part of the game plan to very rarely go short but there were multiple occasions where Sels went for a low-percentage long ball when he had shorter pass receivers in acres of space in wider areas.

Murillo action map for #NFFC v Arsenal. A really good performance from Murillo who almost got a late equaliser with a fine bit of individual skill coming in from the left flank. His covering for Williams on the left was really strong, as was his overall defending - and he had some great moments in distribution as well.

Ousmane Diomande action map for #NFFC v Arsenal. Last week I felt he had some issues defending the space in behind, but today he was far better in this regard (although granted Forest did have a deeper defensive line). It wasn't until the game got stretched after Arsenal's goal where Diomande really looked in any trouble today.

Jair Cunha action map for #NFFC v Arsenal. Thought he was part of a really solid back 3 for a long period of this game. Gyokeres' introduction gave them something to think about, but Jair was calm and composed for the most part, with some really nice moments on the ball. His biggest issues in the game came when pulled out wide 1 v 1 with Madueke, and there was a moment or two when he slightly misjudged the flight of the ball meaning he had bad initial positioning once Madueke gained control.

My metrics taking into account the top 5 leagues in Europe, rank #NFFC as the 90th most entertaining home side (out of 96). Arsenal rank as the 79th most entertaining away side. Forest rank 8th in xGA, with Arsenal ranking 14th in the same metric, with Forest ranking 10th in the Control Index, and Arsenal 23rd. All these signs point towards a bit of a hard slog tomorrow rather than an exciting game - but hopefully Forest can get themselves a much needed positive result.

A come from behind 3-2 win for #NFFC’s B Team against the previously unbeaten Man Utd tonight. Forest now 2nd in PL2. No involvement for Grady McDonnell, who might have been held back for a spot on the bench against Arsenal if Gibbs-White & Milenkovic aren’t available.
