Don't believe emails like these. Scammers keep hoping indie authors will be too eager about getting such a big book order that they won't notice the red flags, like a gmail address for an IngramSpark employee. Not to mention we don't even use IngramSpark. Stay viligent out here

Hi Chelsea,
This is Jasos Paul, Marketing Officer at Coas Books.

Coas Books is New Mexico’s largest independent bookstore, founded in 1983. We operate two locations in Las Cruces and offer over 500,000 new and used books, as well as CDs, DVDs, vinyl, audiobooks, and games. Serving book lovers both in-store and online.

We’re pleased to inform you that we would like to order 2,000 copies of your book, Only Animals , for distribution across our stores nationwide. However, after confirming with IngramSpark, we noticed that your book is currently not marked as returnable.

For us to move forward with this purchase, we need to ensure the book is marked as returnable for a minimum period of 3 years, if needed, we have the option to return unsold copies to IngramSpark for exchange or refund.

To update your book’s status, you can reach out to Dennis at IngramSpark (dennisp.ingramspark@gmail.com), who can assist you in making your book returnable and provide a certificate confirming the chan

Things are not ok. There's not a lot we can do as a random small press in Canada, but at the very least, gatekeeping books is not something we want to continue. I've decided now until forever, all our digital chapbooks are $0/pay-what-you-can. Sending love & lit <3

ALT now — forever all digital chapbooks free/pay what you can
