फिर मिलेंगे 🇮🇳❤️ As my time as British High Commissioner to India comes to an end, I’m leaving with a full heart and countless memories. The UK-India partnership has grown in ambition and breadth, bringing our governments, businesses and people closer than ever. I’m enormously proud to have played my part in that story. Keep following @UKinIndia, because there’s loads more still to come! 1/4

In a manner of speaking, Andy Burnham today announced a mild version of what I was proposing. Maybe he read this tweet! /1

@polcurrency Re the triple lock... @George_Osborne doesn't appear to realise that the formula rewards volatility, rather than the mean. Understanding this then leads to some practical policy suggestions that would save billions, but be politically acceptable. /1

Incidentally here is the BBC graphic about how the triple lock has been executed over the last 10 years. Pretty visually clear how it results in increases that are higher than *all* of the component parts - thanks to the volatility of each measure /2

People who own their homes must be forced to move home, to cheaper areas if they can’t afford the mansion tax, but people who live in social housing in zone 1 must continue to be subsidised by taxpayers because it is unfair to make those people move away from their community. 🤷‍♀️

Making this change would still ensure pensions rose faster than *both* earnings *and* inflation, but not as quickly as the current arrangements. /8

The OBR would give immediate credit for this too, immediately lowering long term borrowing forecasts. A simple change that would save the taxpayer billions. /9 Ends

Excellent episode on the new Burnham cabinet - some genuine insights not captured elsewhere
“John Healey is not a Wes Streeting” In this week’s episode, Ed Balls reflects on his time working with John Healey in the Treasury and how these skills will shape him as Chancellor. He argues his communication style and views on the fiscal rules have earned him the top job. 🎧 LISTEN: tr.ee/pc  🖥️WATCH: tr.ee/PC_TV

Amazon may not be perfect but Bezos is right to say "there are companies who'll work hard to charge as much as possible and those who'll work hard to charge as little as possible" Energy is dominated by the former, but needs more companies to be the latter.

We’ve mapped the mansion tax. You can see who's paying - which constituency, which postcode - and how many "mansions" are near you. Full interactive map here 👇

Good piece on the "apples to pears" mayhem coming at us under Equal Pay cases, which make a mockery of the labour market thetimes.com/article/88b3584…
