I'm a cardiologist. A handful of mushrooms. Forty-five percent lower cancer risk!!! And almost nobody is eating them.
Penn State went through 17 studies and more than 19,500 cancer cases. The people eating about two-thirds of an ounce a day had a 45% lower risk than the people who ate none.
That is not a supplement. That is mushrooms. Button, cremini, portobello, shiitake. Any of them.
The dose is embarrassing. About 18 grams. A few slices on your eggs. The amount most people push to the side of the plate.
Here is the part that stuck with me. Mushrooms are the richest food we eat for ergothioneine. It is an antioxidant your body cannot make, and almost nothing else in the grocery store supplies it in real amounts. The biggest drop in the data was breast cancer.
This is not a cure. It is not a protocol. It is an association from observational studies, and Penn State still said the signal was strong enough to pay attention to.
So the move is simple. Stop treating mushrooms like a garnish. Put them on the plate every day.
If this was a pill, it would be sold out. It is already in the produce aisle.

Man says he is suing Ozempic after an "eraser smear" randomly appeared over his vision on Christmas Day in 2024.
Hundreds of Americans are now suing GLP-1 drugmakers, claiming the drug is causing them to lose their vision.
"It started off as almost an eraser smear, because I thought it was a smear on my glasses."
"So I cleaned my glasses in the afternoon after we opened presents, and I took my glasses off and said, well, it didn't come off, and then I realized it was my eye."
The man, Jay Vandergriff, says he was diagnosed with non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION).

I've attempted to map everything in oncology in a public website and open source repo for all.
The site is trying to get all cancers, products, technologies, bottlenecks, people, startup opportunities with 1000+ ideas for upgrading the field.
If you have a loved one with cancer and you are technical or can engineer, go take a look, file improvement requests or bugs or help with the open repo and make this the best open and free info resource for individuals, researchers and educational use.
This should save people time, aid AI oncology projects and generate positive action. If you are not technical just complain in this thread about broken or annoying or things you want and I'll fix them live.
Some of the interesting pages:
Treatments: onco.cc/drugs
A gallery of the molecules being used onco.cc/molecules/

There are other views as well, take a browse.
Try making a PR if you have an upgrade to this on the repo here: github.com/judegomila/OnCo
If you are biologically/medically minded and something is wrong, file a bug as well or say on the thread and we will get it fixed live.
If this is a useful project star the repo and help get it calibrated.
I've tried to add some other languages but I cannot speak them so tell me if that doesnt work well.
I believe we will crack oncology and having total information dominance is key to the problem.
Let the feedback flow!

Children who take music lessons develop a larger corpus callosum, the bridge between the two halves of the brain, and the change is permanent. A 2005 review in the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences found that early music training produces structural brain changes that persist into adulthood, even if the person stops playing.
The review was led by Gottfried Schlaug at Harvard Medical School, one of the leading researchers on music and the brain. He found that children who started instrumental training before age seven had a significantly larger anterior corpus callosum than non-musicians, and the size difference was still visible in adults who had not touched an instrument in years.
The corpus callosum carries signals between the left and right hemispheres. A larger one means faster, richer communication between the two sides, and the effect shows up in tasks that have nothing to do with music: spatial reasoning, verbal memory, and the ability to process multiple streams of information at once. The music built the highway, and the brain uses it for everything.
Schlaug also found that musicians had larger cerebellums, the region involved in timing and motor coordination, and more grey matter in the areas that process sound. The brain had physically reorganised itself around the demands of the instrument, and the reorganisation was visible on a scan.
The age window matters. Children who started before seven showed the largest changes. Children who started after ten showed smaller ones. Adults who took up an instrument for the first time showed the least structural change, though they still showed some. The brain is most willing to be rebuilt by music during the years when most parents are debating whether to sign their child up for lessons. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1659…

Alcohol caused 741,300 new cancer cases worldwide in 2020. A study in Lancet Oncology found that about 4 percent of all cancers diagnosed that year were caused by drinking, and the risk started at the first drink.
The study was led by Harriet Rumgay at the International Agency for Research on Cancer, which is part of the World Health Organisation. She and her team calculated the number of cancers in 2020 that could be attributed to alcohol consumption at every level: heavy, moderate, and light. Heavy drinking caused the most cases, but light and moderate drinking, defined as up to two drinks a day, still accounted for about 103,100 cancers worldwide.
The cancers most strongly linked to alcohol were breast cancer, liver cancer, colorectal cancer, oesophageal cancer, and cancers of the mouth and throat. For breast cancer in particular, the risk begins with the first drink. There is no threshold below which alcohol does not raise the risk, and the relationship is dose-dependent: more alcohol means more risk, starting from zero.
The mechanism is a chemical called acetaldehyde, which is what the body turns alcohol into during digestion. Acetaldehyde damages DNA and prevents the body from repairing the damage. Every drink produces it, and every exposure carries some risk.
Wine, beer, and spirits all carry the same risk per unit of alcohol. There is nothing protective about red wine that cancels out the acetaldehyde. The idea that a glass of wine is healthy has been one of the most durable myths in modern nutrition, and the cancer data has taken it apart. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3427…
