Update on this: he owes me around £25,000, and several other people have contacted me saying he owes them money too. Sadly, he’s now gone quiet and stopped responding, so it’s looking increasingly unlikely that we’ll get our money back.

Based on my experience, I believe I was the victim of a romance scam. Others have told me they’ve had similar experiences. I’m sharing this so people can be aware and cautious.
