A missing cow. A leopard's tracks in the dirt. For farmers near Sigiriya, this has long meant one thing: a devastating loss with no way back 🐄
Now, a new #livestock insurance scheme is changing that story. When a farmer loses an animal to a #leopard, the loss can be reported, verified, and compensated 💰 easing the financial blow and reducing the reasons to retaliate against wildlife.
Launched by @UNDP 's BIOFIN, with @wnpssl and @LOLCOfficial, under the guidance of the Department of Wildlife Conservation🤝 the scheme has already supported its first successful claim!
Because protecting livelihoods 🧑🌾 and protecting leopards 🐆 don't have to be two different goals, they can be part of the same story 🌿
