New post: After sounding the alarm for years through writing and public speaking, Chris Jones is exploring a Democratic campaign for Iowa secretary of agriculture in 2026. I talked to him about his vision for change in farming and rural Iowa: bleedingheartland.com/2025/1…

Continued use of corn for fuel is the dumbest natural resource decision ever made in the US. 20% of Iowa’s land is used for this purpose, and it has changed for the worse the fabric of agriculture
Far more land is taken up to grow corn for ethanol (30 million acres) than is needed for utility PV (17+ million acres) to power the entire U.S. for all energy- electricity, transportation, buildings, and industry after full electrification cleantechnica.com/2024/09/06… @cleantechnica

It didn’t have to be like this. Our governor is sofa king stupid.
No more babies will be delivered in Jasper County. No OBGYN care. Our rural healthcare crisis deserves more attention than divisive rhetoric and political games.

Fair point.
Just one question: Does trying to overturn the results of a presidential election disrespect the grassroots who voted in the general election?

If this was put in terms of waste of inputs, would that sink in, or run off?
(Thread) 2.28 Million pounds of Nitrate-Nitrogen will leave this watershed today. Since May 1st, 95 million pounds have left the watershed, more than 1.5 million pounds per day. (Iowa-Cedar)

Reggie’s experience, mirrored by countless other black Americans, is our history and heritage. And, if you think it is only blacks that have experiences as these, talk to an American Indian.
Alex Rodriguez asked a question. Reggie Jackson answered it. (Shouts to the producer and rest of the desk for staying out of Reggie’s way and just letting him talk. I doubt they expected this answer. But it’s a great few minutes of television.)

Holy carp!🐡 14 lbs per crop acre, in the watershed. That’s so bad!
About 38 million pounds of nitrate-N left this watershed in the Des Moines R. during May (2024). That's about 14 pounds per crop acre over an 6245 square mile area--one month. May 2013: 25 million lbs June 2013: 33 million lbs Daily load > 1 M lbs every day from 5/6 to 6/12/24

“It’s hard to understand why Iowa can’t afford to feed her people but has enough money to send Iowa State Patrol troopers and Iowa National Guard soldiers to roam around southern Texas looking for immigrants.”

But when the federal government mandates a market for ethanol, you cheer. Unlike ethanol, the EV industry won't need 40 years of federal intervention to make a profit while polluting our water.
