Gerd was a kind soul with a sharp wit, a lot of guidance for freelancers and a deep love for the people and landscapes of the far north. His passing is a loss to the press gallery.
Saddened to hear of the death at age 72 of long-time Parliamentary Press Gallery member Gerd Braune, who reported on Canada for Swiss and German news outlets. Gerd was a fellow Hot Room resident, a lovely man with a dry wit and deep understanding of Canada-Europe relations.

Grok is claiming a video from the central fire in Glasgow, Scotland is actually Tel Aviv. Stop putting any faith into this hallucinatory software.

At a briefing ahead of PM Carney's trip, senior Canada officials declined to identify which business leaders the PM was meeting with. Officials wouldn't even disclose which sectors the business leaders would hail from.
Interesting to learn about this visit with one of India's richest and most powerful families on social media instead of, say, official itinerary information provided to Canadian media. Especially on a trip where not even a short scrum has been afforded to travelling reporters.

My dad suffered a life-altering accident abroad several weeks ago and is now in a rehab centre in Toronto. A friend started a Go Fund Me to help with his medical bills abroad. Please see the link below. Thank you to those who have already contributed and/or shared the link.
This is heartbreaking: my friend’s 68-year-old dad became quadriplegic after a freak accident overseas. Without travel insurance, the medical bills are crushing and they’re racing to get him home for rehab. Please consider helping or sharing. ❤️ gofund.me/ce9c2723d

This is a tough read. Steve is a great guy. Hoping someone hires him.
This story about the precarity of life hits close to home. Hope for happier times ahead for my old colleague. open.substack.com/pub/steves…
