The 3D printers are working overtime in the office. You are definitely going to want to come check out the Makerspace at GitHub Universe next week 👀

Wow 😳
We discovered a sophisticated recording device that was hidden inside one of our offices. We used our models to understand the device and where it had come from, identifying that a specific employee had planted it a few days earlier. We referred the matter to the FBI, and we’re grateful to the agents and prosecutors who moved quickly to make an arrest. The FBI’s investigation is ongoing and we will continue to support their work.
At this time, we have no indications of this individual inappropriately accessing or exfiltrating model weights, source code, or customer data. The employee was terminated.
We take protecting our technology, data, and people seriously, and as a matter of national importance. Our security program is designed to protect against a wide range of threat actors, from insider risks to cybercriminals to nation states, and this case is an example of how AI can help address these sophisticated security threats.
The best AI users aren’t going to be the best prompters. They’re going to be the people who know what matters, what doesn’t, and when the perfectly logical answer is wrong. New Quiet Operator post:

One of the more interesting shifts with agentic development is that it doesn’t just change who is writing code, it changes the underlying operating assumptions.
7.38B commits on GitHub, more than 5x a year earlier. Pushes grew 4.9x YoY, and GitHub Actions ran 3.26B times in September, more than 4x last year.
This is a fascinating look at how GitHub is rethinking Git infrastructure for what comes next, not just adding capacity, but redesigning for a fundamentally different shape of software development.

October might be my favorite kind of chaos: #GitHubUniverse + toddler Halloween 🎃
#GitHubUniverse custom wallpaper using Octocanvas just like @pierceboggan with maybe a few less followers, repos, and contributions. 🙃
I absolutely need one of these at home 😍 #GitHubUniverse
#GitHubUniverse day two’s keynote left me feeling deeply inspired—and also convinced I have wildly unrealistic expectations for my son’s teenage years. 🫠 @martinwoodward you were awesome!
