A huge day for the Invictus Movement to be acknowledged by such esteemed leaders in such a highly regarded forum. @WeAreInvictus @NATO @CMC_NATO
A pleasure to welcome Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, founder of the Invictus Games Foundation, joining remotely, alongside @WeAreInvictus Deputy CEO Richard Smith and Chief Programmes and Strategy David Wiseman. After having met them recently in Kyiv, I was once again struck by their clear vision and genuine commitment to those who have carried the heaviest burden of service. In Ukraine, “Invictus” - unconquered - is a daily reality. We discussed their plans to bring #sport into the network of veteran hubs and how we can further strengthen our cooperation. #NATO and Invictus share values of community, respect and belonging. Our veterans’ commitment does not end when the uniform comes off, and neither should our support. No soldier fights alone, and no veteran should recover alone. #StrongerTogether

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba Reinstates UPDF Participation in the 2027 Invictus Games Kampala, Monday September 14, 2026 The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has approved UPDF participation in the upcoming Invictus Games next year in Birmingham, United Kingdom. The decision follows a telephone conversation between General Kainerugaba and the Principal Private Secretary to His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen of the United Kingdom, the Right Honourable Sir Clive Alderton K.C.V.O. In the discussion, Sir Alderton revealed that King Charles III was moved by General Kainerugaba’s sensitive consideration of the King’s opinion on the upcoming Invictus Games organized by Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex. Sir Alderton said King Charles III has no problem with Uganda’s participation in the Invictus Games, and encouraged the CDF to proceed with preparations for UPDF’s participation in the games. In the telephone conversation, General Kainerugaba appreciated the King’s message and clarity provided by Buckingham Palace on the subject, promising that the UPDF would resume preparations to participate in the upcoming games. The Invictus Games is an international multi-sport event founded by Prince Harry in 2014 for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans. Uganda joined the Games this year as the 26th member nation, but the CDF had withdrawn UPDF participation in the upcoming games to preserve Uganda’s close relationship with the British Monarchy after Buckingham Palace had earlier issued a statement indicating that the Invictus Games were a private charity organization. So many incredible memories over twelve incredible years.
Happy 12th anniversary to the #InvictusGames that began it all. The Invictus Games London 2014 turns 12 today, and we love looking back at an event filled with so many iconic moments, when the city of London came together to support the Invictus Community at such a pivotal moment. The Invictus Games are about Changing Lives and Saving Lives through the power of sport, and we are honoured to continue that work today, using sport and adventurous challenge to support recovery and rehabilitation for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans. On #WorldSuicidePreventionDay, we also remember members of our community we have lost over the years, while recognising the impact that sport, connection and the Invictus Spirit can have on those who are struggling. #WSPD26

'For years, Prince Harry has too often been discussed through the prism of controversy. 'In the process, something more important has been lost – the record of a man who has served his country, supported veterans, championed seriously ill children, and built one of the most successful international movements for wounded servicemen and women.' @MikeTappTweets argues the Duke of Sussex has done a great deal for Britain and deserves more generosity ⤵️ telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/08…

Decisions about protective security should be based on a clear-eyed assessment of the threat and impact they face. I don’t presume to know what the outcome should be for Prince Harry, that is not for politicians. But having with my security hat on, having worked in national security, I strongly believe the only relevant consideration should be the assessed level of threat, and the professionals should be allowed to reach that decision independently. Police protection is not a reward for public service. It exists to prevent attacks, deter those who would do harm and manage known risks before lives are lost. Those responsible should of course make their assessment based on evidence, intelligence and risk - not headlines, politics or public opinion. The central question is simple: what is the genuine level of threat faced by Prince Harry and his family when they are in Britain? The decision should be made independently on that basis alone. Nothing more, and nothing less. telegraph.co.uk/gift/8742820…

The world has lost a man who redefined what is possible. Nirmal Purja, or Nims, was a bright light of inspiration to countless people. In the Brigade of Gurkhas we are proud to call him one of our own. But his achievements belong to none of us, because it was he himself who showed us that the easy path is not the one that leads to achievement. He died on Broad Peak in Pakistan in a tragic accident that also took the lives of others from around the world, all mountaineers united in the spirit of challenge and human endeavour. We mourn them all. But we also celebrate remarkable lives, and none more so than that of Nims. A soldier, a Gurkha, a mountaineer, a husband, a father, a son and a brother. You have shown us a path - we must rise to your example. Rest in peace Nims. Major General Gez Strickland (Colonel Commandant the Brigade of Gurkhas). #NirmalPurja #Mountaineer #Avalanche #Nepal #Gurkha #Soldier #Nims
