Winternitz Update: Pre Mainnet Security Audit 🛡️ First, we want to apologize to the Hacken team for sharing a screenshot of our private conversation. We appreciate their outreach and support, and we respect the privacy of our discussions. However, we also want our community to understand the progress we're making and the work happening behind the scenes every day. Before launching Winternitz on mainnet, we’re taking an important step toward strengthening security. We’re pleased to share that Hacken will be auditing our smart contracts before the mainnet launch. Our goal is to have our contracts independently reviewed by an established security team, identify potential vulnerabilities, and address any issues before deployment. We understand how important security and trust are, especially for a post quantum wallet project. We want to learn from past challenges and take the necessary precautions to avoid repeating previous issues. We’re building Winternitz with a long term vision, and that means prioritizing security over rushing to launch. This is part of our commitment to building a more secure, reliable, and trustworthy product for everyone. No shortcuts. No rushing. Security first. More updates will follow as development and the pre mainnet audit process progress. Thank you for being part of the Winternitz journey.

Winternitz ($WTZ) Security Status Update We're pleased to share that $WTZ is now displaying “No issues” in the wallet's Security and Trust section, with the previous risk warning no longer appearing. We sincerely appreciate the @blockaid_ Support Team for their responsiveness and assistance throughout this process. This experience has taught us an important lesson about prioritising security verification and proactive communication from the earliest stages of development. Thank you for your patience, trust, and continued support during a challenging period.
Hello everyone, Yesterday, we were deeply focused on building and improving the Winternitz ecosystem, and we hadn't yet had the opportunity to address the recent warning appearing on MetaMask. We've since reached out to the MetaMask Support Team, who confirmed that the WTZ token is currently being flagged by Blockaid's security system. We're now taking the next steps to contact @blockaid_ directly, understand what triggered the warning, and work towards resolving any identified issues. We take security concerns seriously and believe in addressing them through transparency and proper verification. In the meantime, development continues as planned. Our focus remains on improving Winternitz Wallet, strengthening our smart contracts, and preparing for independent security audits. We're still in the early stages, and there's plenty more to build. Thank you to everyone who continues to support Winternitz. We keep building. Security first. Transparency always.

We've submitted a formal appeal to Blockaid requesting a review of the recent security flag affecting $WTZ. Following our communication with MetaMask's User Safety Team, we've taken the necessary steps to request clarification on the warning and determine whether it was triggered by a false positive. We respect the role of security providers in protecting users and remain fully committed to transparency and addressing any legitimate concerns. While we await Blockaid's response, development continues as planned across Winternitz Wallet, our post quantum infrastructure, and upcoming security preparations. We'll share further updates as soon as we receive clarification. No distractions. Just building. Security first. Transparency always.

Winternitz Privacy Lab Development Update Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to explore and test our Shield ETH feature. Your feedback has been incredibly valuable. Over the past few days, we've been identifying and fixing several bugs affecting the ETH shielding process, improving transaction handling, and refining the overall user experience. Every test, every bug report, and every piece of feedback helps us build a more reliable product. What's next? We're continuing to improve Shield ETH, strengthen transaction verification, and refine the recovery experience as we prepare for further testing. We're still early, and there's more work ahead. 🔗 winternitz.app/

Winternitz Development Update We’ve added XMSS message signature verification to the web wallet and browser extension. Users can now check a signature against its message, smart account, and network. Verification combines local cryptographic checks with ERC-1271 validation at the same block without sending a transaction or consuming a signing leaf. We also added separate testnet deployment tooling with runtime bytecode and contract configuration checks. 1. 200 tests passed 2. Type checks and production build passed 3. Local deployment and revocation flows validated 4. One optional FFI test skipped Next: XMSS account creation, message key management, and dApp signing approval screens.

The wallet uses WOTS for asset transfers and message root management, while XMSS^MT handles message signing, providing a foundation for dApp login and proof of account control. As shown in the chart, the journal reserves an unused leaf before signing and records completion before releasing the signature. ERC-1271 checks the signature against the active message root. Each message is bound to the account, chain ID, and key epoch. Revoking the root causes previously issued signatures to fail subsequent verification. In two local tests, estimated ERC-1271 verification costs were approximately 2.43–2.64 million gas, including calldata. Verification costs still require optimization. The SDK and contracts have passed local validation. Next steps are web and extension integration, signing approval screens, and public testnet deployment of the new account version.

How Does a Winternitz Transaction Reach the Blockchain? The wallet constructs a UserOperation and signs it locally using Winternitz One Time Signatures (WOTS). A bundler then simulates the operation before submitting it to the EntryPoint contract. The EntryPoint coordinates verification through the smart account before executing the approved instructions. The bundler facilitates transaction submission and initially covers the gas fees, which are subsequently reimbursed using funds from the wallet. Throughout this process, the user's private keys remain securely on their device. This mechanism follows the ERC-4337 architecture.

Ethereum continues to push the boundaries of blockchain innovation, from account abstraction to longterm security research. As the ecosystem evolves, we believe post quantum cryptography represents another important area worth exploring. At Winternitz, we're contributing to that direction by developing hash based authorisation, onetime signatures, and automatic key rotation through ERC 4337. Our goal is simple: to explore and build additional security infrastructure that can support the longterm evolution of Ethereum and emerging EVM ecosystems, including Robinhood Chain. We've just published a technical article covering our architecture, security considerations, current limitations, and future development roadmap. Inspired by the ongoing innovation across the ecosystem, we'd be grateful to hear the perspectives of @VitalikButerin and @vladtenev on the future of post quantum security and blockchain infrastructure. Building towards a more resilient future for Ethereum and the broader EVM ecosystem. Read our full article below ↓
