It remains insane that public school districts let their best (and most expensive) teachers collect at "more desirable" schools and grade levels, leaving many others primarily with rookies and substitutes.
It remains insane that so many PUBLIC schools reserve their best resources and best teachers for a select few students based on a single test score. The neediest students get the least-qualified teachers. It makes no damn sense.

Caro is a beautiful writer who churns out incomparable prose, but if people want to understand the New York of today I advise they start with Fear City by Kim Phillips-Fein, not The Power Broker (which they can always get to later)
The Power Broker came out in 1974. That means that there’s been over 50 years of scholarship on New York City’s urban planning and political economy (not to mention changes in its governing structures). With the greatest respect to Robert Caro, our public discourse has to evolve.

The Panthers side of the Tetairoa McMillan story is fun too Did indeed destroy the Jags secondary
Best day of practice ever for Bhayshul Tuten headline but also the caveat that he hasn’t been as good since the pads came on Notable to look good in a joint practice, however Also Tetairoa McMillan was torching the Jaguars

New newsletter: MODERN FATHERHOOD WOULD BE UNRECOGNIZABLE TO A 1950'S DAD Compared to their Boomer parents, childcare time among Millennial dads has more than doubled. Compared to their Silent Generation grandparents, it’s nearly quadrupled. You will be hard-pressed to find any part of day-to-day modern life that has changed more in the last half-century than the way today’s parents—and fathers, in particular—spend their time. The new American dad is more present and more exhausted—but also, more satisfied with life. What's behind this half-century transformation? Today's piece combines history, economic analysis, and gorgeous charts galore from @AzizSunderji

This is really going to be the least competitive Mayoral race since 2011
The Mike Quigley for Chicago Mayor website is online and it has a question for you.

semi-relatedly, one of the most fair & plausible ways to fill a lot of the pension funding crisis in illinois would be for the state to end its retirement income tax exemption (at least on pension payments)
I agree that they earned that social security income, and as such, it should be taxed like any other income.

One of the problems with maintaining such poor credit fundamentals is that it leaves you susceptible to tail risks. Chicago may face borrowing at 6% soon for long-term tax-exempt general obligation bonds. That's a punishing rate for local taxpayers. We need to rein in costs ASAP.
