Great question Frank! My first mentor when coming to Napa was Mike Martini. His knowledge of Monte Rosso and the wine industry as a whole was so beneficial to my understanding of the wines I was working on (came to Louis Martini in 2006).

Is it strange to love the label almost as much as the wine? The Mount Peak 2017 Rattlesnake Zinfandel is so complex & intense...I'm loving the flavors like cherry, licorice, and pepper. But the label art is beautiful too!

Rattlesnake Zinfandel is a tribute to the crest called Rattlesnake Hill, the highest point of the #LegendaryZinVineyards Monte Rosso Vineyard. It’s famous for the rattlesnakes living among the vines, seeking sunshine by day and coiling around the vines at night.

Tonight, I am opening our 2017 Rattlesnake Zinfandel! This Zin is bold and boisterous! It’s excellent with what I’m cooking – Grilled Leg of Lamb, Grilled Fig, Creamy Polenta and Charred Scallion Gremolata #GrillingWithZin.
Our wines are inspired by this great place, and we pay tribute to the extraordinary winery that once stood there by capturing its enduring spirit in our wine. Honoring Monte Rosso feels deeply personal to me. I am truly inspired by our #LegendaryZinVineyards.
Surrounding the ghost winery are some really old vines…with over 35 acres of Zinfandel from the late 1800s, as well as the oldest Semillon (1880s) and Cabernet (1940) in California which are still producing wine to this day!
Our story begins more than a century ago, at the celebrated Monte Rosso Vineyard and culminates with the revival of Mount Peak Winery, one of California’s few remaining ghost wineries. #LegendaryZinVineyards.
