WEEKEND FOOTBALL RESULTS ‼️ Windermere 1 - 2 Kirkby Stephen Kirkby Stephen always give us a tough game, we know what we’re getting. Well drilled, organised and always very hard working. We started the first half lethargic again, never really got much going and after about 20 minutes we found ourselves 1-0 down. Hangover from the last 6 weeks may have set in and we found ourselves 2-0 down not long after. Good work from Kirkbys number 6 who grabbed both goals. We replied quickly as Dean played a lovely ball over the top which Mason finished neatly into the bottom corner. As we looked to fight back. Second half is where we finally started looking like a footballing team again. For most of the second half we dominated possession, and created more than enough chances to grab a goal or even 2. With a couple chances going the other way. All we lacked was a finish which just never came somehow. Credit has to go to Kirkby Stephen. Worked incredibly hard off the ball and made it very difficult for us. They won most tackles, headers and seemed to have more desire. A tough sentence to type. Goalscorer. Mason Smith ⚽️ Dean Aughpin 🅰️ Massive thank you to Racehorse Daylatedollarshort for sponsoring Saturdays fixture. The official Racehorse of Windermere part owned by gaffers brother Gaz Hicks 🫶 Heysham Bay 5-3 Windermere Reserves The ressies travelled to Holme to face Heysham with a new formation, a new face and plenty of lads unavailable. It had all the makings of a tough afternoon, but there was plenty to be pleased with in our performance. Heysham took the lead very early on, but our veteran Sam Fletcher replied with an absolute stunner! 🚀 From there, we grew into the game and were the better side for much of the first half. Despite our dominance, a penalty decision we felt was harsh put Heysham back in front. The lads responded brilliantly again, scoring from a corner to make it 2–2 at the break. We started the second half well, but another penalty decision left us scratching our heads and knocked the stuffing out of us. Heysham took advantage and were awarded a third penalty shortly afterwards. Three penalties in one game… 👀 Heysham added another to make it five, but credit to the lads: we kept going and grabbed a late consolation to finish 5–3. A frustrating result, but plenty of positives to take away, especially with the changes to the side and formation. Some great football played and plenty to build on. Goal Scorers. WEEKEND FOOTBALL RESULTS ‼️ Windermere 4-10 Appleby Not sure where our heads were at but we got off to the worst possible start, conceding after less than a minute. The next 20 minutes were a blur too as we couldn’t cope with Applebys movement in the final third and we found ourselves 3-0 down and feeling sorry for ourselves. Then we suddenly woke up and started looking dangerous with a few good moves and our usual style of football started to show. Jack Hindle put some good work in down the left and eventually smashed home from a few yards out to bring us back in it. We found ourselves 4-1 down at the break but thought we had enough to claw ourselves back in it and make a fist of things. Straight after the break some more good football ended with a goal when the ball fell to Lew RT after a free kick from the left hand side of the box. 4-2 and we were coming back. The next 10 minutes was a constant wave of attacks from us brought about by pure determination and fight. Unfortunately we never managed to get the goal our efforts deserved and when Appleby scored a breakaway goal to make it 5-2 we pretty much gave up. Mason got another goal when he finished neatly over the keeper from a 1 on 1. Matt slater then smashed a long range effort in to the bottom corner for our pick of the goals. But the game was well beyond us at this point and our hopes of any cup success were long gone. Back to the league next week when we take on Kirkby Stephen at home. Harry Vinall was selected by Gaz Wilks as our Sponsors man of the match, his work rate as ever was outstanding. Harry is Sponsored by The Original Barber Windermere. We created plenty of chances but didn’t make them count. An awful tackle early on one of our lads needing hospital treatment, with only a yellow card shown. A hugely disappointing incident, and we wish Nick a speedy recovery. We let ourselves get drawn away from our football, and some sloppy play proved costly but Bob Wood got us on the scoresheet, we needed a much better response after the break. Following an honest half-time talk, the lads reacted well Olly Hindle added our second and Alfie converted a deserved penalty but further mistakes cost us again. There were positives in the second-half reaction, but we know we’ve got to be better. We need to take our chances, cut out the mistakes and keep our standards when games get difficult. WEEKEND FOOTBALL RESULT ‼️ Windermere 2-5 Wetheriggs United. We were very unlucky not to lead earlier when Webbo beat the keeper to a through ball, only for a last-ditch tackle to deny him. We got the goal our play deserved when Slats put Haz through down the left. His shot hit the inside of the post and Lew RT followed it in at the back post. 1-0. Riggs levelled on the stroke of half-time with a 25-yard thunderbolt the keeper never got near. 1-1. We hit back after the break: Jindle skilfully held it up and then released Slats, whose cross was swept into the top corner from 10 yards by Lew RT. 2-1. We lost our way after that and Wetheriggs came back again. Their finishing was excellent, and for all our work we couldn’t keep them out. There was good football in spells and everyone put a shift in — Wheelhouse Tony strong in midfield, Jack and Lew working hard up top. We pick ourselves up and go again next week against Appleby in the cup.
