I also think that the reason people like Andy Stanley and Beth Moore started moderating their positions on homosexuality is because they truly believed evangelicalism was eventually going to follow the culture. I think they truly believed that gay marriage would become accepted by evangelicals in the same way that interracial marriage eventually was.
What they failed to recognize is that real Christians were never going to move on the issue of homosexuality. Because the Bible has always been clear that that is a sin while interracial marriage was never a sin.
One was correction away from unbiblical standard, so it was eventually embraced by Christians.
The other one is defying a biblical standard and it was never going to take hold in the true church no matter what denomination you are.
Support for same-sex marriage really hits an inflection point for most religious groups when comparing weekly attenders vs everyone else.
For evangelicals, support goes from 49% to 21% when comparing monthly attenders to weekly attenders.
It drops 13 pts for mainline. 14 points for Black Protestants.
For Catholics, it's down 16 points.
Orthodox Christianity is a 33 points decline.
But it's the largest among Jews - 37 pts.

That explains the tag still hanging from the jacket. @FBI should be able to get that purchase record from Kohl's immediately. Loretta recalls making that purchase, along with other gifts, using her Kohl's credit card.
