This is how I define “unmanaged fear.”
Missing out. Unfairness. The unknown. Failure. Losing control. Rejection.
All normal.
It becomes unmanaged when fear starts driving assumptions.
When communication is unclear, fear fills in the blanks.
Same goal = No fence required. ❤️
Baton Rouge Catholic HS Coach, Brad Bass, gave me the best sentence about the parent-coach relationship I have ever recorded: parents are not the enemy; it is just unmanaged fear. Coaches are not the enemy; it is just unclear communication. Get rid of the fence. It is a partnership with the same goal. A national-champion coach refusing to take a side and indicting both. That is the entire conversation, solved.

Years ago, HS baseball legend M.L. Woodruff gave me advice.
I was angry & told him, “I’m lighting my team up this afternoon.”
He asked:
“Who will that make feel better-you or them?”
Simple question. Profound lesson.
Be demanding. Not demeaning.
Conviction, not compliance 🤘
Coach Bass on why yelling never works: every coach wants discipline right away , but discipline is a fruit; it is not a root. Integrity first, then trust, then connection, then confidence. You cannot skip steps. He holds a master's in psychology and won three straight state titles doing it that way. The old way is not the proven way. It is just the loud way.
