Hiltzik: The billionaires' campaign against the California billionaire tax relies on conjecture and fear-mongering latimes.com/business/story/2…

It’s beyond sad. It’s beyond disappointing; at this point, it’s disqualifying for anyone with ambitions for higher office as a Democrat, or a Republican, for that matter, to be fighting to keep billionaires from being taxed while kids don’t have health insurance and the cost of living goes sky-high.
These billionaires are also the ones hellbent on replacing entire workforces with the AI they are developing with our tax dollars (watch the “Musk” doc). We are also living through the largest wealth gap in modern history. At this point, the only way to balance out the economic forces that have bought our politicians and keep rigging the game against working people is through taxes.
Let’s hope Gavin gets some sense and walks this back. It’s crazy that this is what he chooses to spend his political capital, and part of his legacy, doing. He vetoed the bill that would have put a “kill switch” on AI for our protection. He vetoed a bill that would have gotten forever chemicals out of cookware. Time and time again, he goes with corporate interests over the well-being of the people, even after his own bipartisan legislature votes for something.
And here we go again.
Gavin, we aren’t looking for the Democratic version of Trump. That was a good goof. Please try something else. It’s tired.
The people need a champion, man. A real, bona fide champion who isn’t just tough in tweets or press conferences, but tough when it comes to the real imbalances people are struggling with every day: billionaires vs. people and the planet.

Good this is published. People deserve to know Anthropic’s aims- to write their own rules + protect their profits at the expense of public safety or benefit
A lot of things wrong but a stand out is they want to protect their right to kill people in the interest of “innovation”??
Anthropic quietly pitches its own AI safety bill to lawmakers politi.co/4zxDFhl

Leading the Future isn’t just toxic with voters, it’s toxic with its own donors. First OpenAI’s President backed away from a commitment to give another $25M, then their only Dem donor said he regrets supporting them. Now their filing shows the money is drying up altogether.

Once again. Just like the Paramount Merger Gavin Newsom does what he always does. Sells out the working class people for the billionaires again and again. Not only that but endorses a bill that will make it impossible to tax the wealthy at all.

Leading the Future was started to scare candidates from speaking out in favor of AI regulation.
Instead, it's become so politically toxic its own donors don't even want to be associated with it.
NEWS: @JayCarney told me that his new boss, Democratic megadonor and venture capitalist @RonConway, regrets his previous donation to the AI industry Super PAC Leading the Future.

Just how toxic is AI money? New polling w/ @DataProgress shows 3/4 of voters less likely to support a candidate backed by an AI super PAC, a bigger impact on vote share than a candidate who voted to cut billions from Medicaid or supports a nationwide abortion ban. More below 👇
New: Guardrails Action is out with polling shared first with @BGOV finding that taking AI industry cash could be a political liability with voters in swing states. They hope it will counter fears candidates may have about taking a tough line on AI news.bgov.com/bloomberg-gove…

It's been days and we still have no answers on why OpenAI fired Jasmine, Tomek, and Mikita.
In SF in case anyone want to go on a walk or take a smoke break with me.

But the Coliseum is alluring. Especially if there’s a lockout. Who would you like to see the @OaklandBallers play? @wpbl_firebells? @TheSavBananas? @picklesbaseball?
William Fitzgerald retweeted
We would have to raise money from sponsors or fans to make this happen.
It would be pretty expensive to convert the Coli back to baseball, but if there is a will (and some $$) there is a way.
I doubt it would happen for multiple reasons, but it would be pretty damn cool to see the @OaklandBallers play a series (or a game at the minimum) at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in 2027 🙏
