One of the best moments of my life. This was taken immediately after my quarterfinals win for Team USA at the chessboxing world championships last month

Sometimes you either got it in you or you don’t
And if you have to ask..
#sicko
Most people accept that you
“shouldn’t let it get to you”
And as general principle this is probably a net positive
But….
The next level is to realize that you don’t have to reflexively suppress natural reactions
Are you disavowing yourself?
Why?
What happens if you lean in?
Look back on each uncertainty, every past discomfort, and see how you’re now better for it
But did it have to be that way?
you disavow yourself anytime you say you wish you didn’t feel a certain way
how can you disagree with your own feelings?
or maybe you just dislike them which is even worse
you feel this way for a reason
embrace it
Not to jinx it but nobody can really fool me about who they are
I perceive almost everything and I know how to contextualize things
You can’t always know someone’s true motivation, but you can always understand what’s going on based on the information you have
And after enough interactions you can often start to guess people’s “why” anyways
The main thing is just don’t miss the information that is in front of you
Now this doesn’t mean I always know everything, but it does mean that whatever read I do have is never a false positive
ie I’m confident in my assessments
Maybe some exceptions when I was a kid since it takes reps to build understanding
Shoutout Tommy McMillen
Great example of a true warrior, feels like he was born to fight
It’s worth reflecting on what comes natural to you
Are you meant to do what you do?
Does it matter?
When I actually really want something nobody is going to want it more than me
Can’t recall that ever even happening
This state is always marked by a natural competitive drive that can’t be self-induced
A level of anger
Of course, I don’t get this way about the vast majority of things
Which is why I recognize and appreciate it when it does surface
It’s one of the best feelings yet I don’t choose when it happens
But I know my pattern, and it’s not what you might think
Can you recognize yours?
Does it even exist?
the more you experience the more context you have and the more you understand
easy to appreciate anything new or jarring if you keep this mind
Just walked by a quarter on the sidewalk and didn’t pick it up #focused
Almost everyone watches sports with the mindset of a spectator.
“Yeah obviously”
The point is few try and relate to the athlete. The performer. The man in the arena.
Could never envision themselves doing something similar. Never think about what it took to get there.
Makes it way easier to talk shit.
How about instead you think about how you would handle the pressure.
What would your strategy be?
How can you get a similar amount of people to watch you?
This applies any time you’re watching someone else.
Are you forever the spectator?
“That guy sucks”
